Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes
This game is out next week on Switch/PS/XBox/PC. A classic-styled JRPG headed-up by some of the original Suikoden staff including the recently-passed Murayama, it's been receiving generally good impressions from the Kickstarter backers who received and are already playing physical copies (mostly in ...

Re: What are you playing right now?
Continued progress on Tears of the Kingdom: Found the final round of Tears, got the Master Sword Went through a bunch of encounters in Hyrule Castle with "fake Zelda" including the many-phantom-ganons Still no idea what's going on with Kakariko Village yet Explored a fair bit of the depths...

Re: Actual Top 8 — Poll 4
This is the one poll I feel I can vote in as I haven't played one of the games in each of the others! It's tough, though - while Chrono Trigger is a much tighter game, FF6 is sprawling and has more to offer - more customization, larger party size, and more secrets. On the whole the customization isn...

Re: What are you playing right now?
Interesting mentioning Depths and the gameplay loop - that's something I found fascinating about the game, how amazing (imo) the three layers mesh together. Build flying contraptions on the surface to go into the sky, collect sundelions and fairies in the sky so you can survive longer in the depths...

Re: BOTTOM 16 — Poll 3
Breath of the Wild is the most different Zelda since Ocarina of Time took the series into 3D. I would even argue that it's the first truly successful execution of the Zelda series "mission" in 3D, which is why I'm voting for it here. I won't vote for BotW here since I didn't play it, but ...

Re: What are you playing right now?
I'm still chipping away at Tears of the Kingdom. I've finished the fourth Regional Phenomena quest and I'm assuming I have at least another similar-sized chunk left (based mostly on my empty middle finger, and the fact I couldn't do anything with Kakariko Village when I tried earlier). I've got abou...

Re: BOTTOM 64 — Poll 3
This is tough! There are good reasons to vote for either of these. While SOTN didn't invent metroidvanias, it IS the original "vania" in the genre, and it's aesthetically great. While BG2 didn't invent CRPGs, it is a vast refinement over the more janky (and difficult) BG1, and really cemen...

Re: BOTTOM 64 — Poll 7
Starcraft is really good, and it is a genre-defining game - IMO it's better than Warcraft III, and really refined the map customization offered in Warcraft II to allow much more freedom - to the point where people could create open-world RPGs, Risk-like strategy games, proto-tower defenses (Matrix D...

Re: BOTTOM 64 — Poll 18
Oof, this is a tough one for me. Both of these are text-heavy RPGs that subvert many expectations with regards to what an RPG is. I mean, Disco Elysium is more of a visual novel that uses RPG-style conventions and attributes - a little more like old fantasy gamebooks where you had more options or sa...

Re: TOP 16 — Poll 4 of 8
That strategy doesn't just end in your approach to combat, but in your whole approach to character design. One of the complaints people who don't know how to play the game had about it was that you just have to walk around everywhere holding your shield up. Using a shield and then reacting to enemy...
