Shadows Within and Without
by Brian Johnson

Regardless of what tool is used to create a form of expression, whether it is artistic or purely functional, the creation is an exercise of mimicry. The tool may be a brush, a pen, a musical instrument, or any of a great many other things, yet the piece remains a modified image of many others. Despite that, each work offers a unique contribution to those that experience it. Nick Suttner, author of Shadow of the Colossus by Boss Fight Books, assumed the daunting task of using words to describe the experience of playing Team Ico’s Shadow of the Colossus and to explore its impact on players and developers since its release. We saw a peek at Shadow of the Colossus for PS4 at the Sony E3 presentation. This article breaks down what the game actually is.

Importantly, it's not another up-rezzed HD remaster. They're remaking all the graphical assets. It sounds like they're also tweaking the control schemes and/or giving the players more choice and flexibility in the control scheme they use. The original "feel" is still going to be there as an option. The talk about feel makes me think this isn't just a controller update, but a change to how the character actually moves. We'll see.

It's really nice to see a game that hinges on the visually-stunning nature of its world get a treatment like this to fully take advantage of advances in display tech.
Over men and horses, hoops and garters, lastly through a hogshead of real fire.
In this way Mr. K. will challenge the world!

I feel like them bringing back Shadow of the Colossus after already making an HD version not too long ago means a few thing. 1. Maybe they are looking to go back to this series, or after the Last Guardian Sony is looking to raise awareness for Team Ico again. 2. This is running on The Last Guardian engine and is getting them the most bang for their buck after years of developing Guardian.
