Use this thread to track your game completion progress in 2017. I'll get things started.

Beaten:
1/7 - Dead Rising 4 (Xbone)

This is the second time a Dead Rising game has been my first completed game in a new year (possibly third, but I wasn't tracking these stats when I beat DR1). This is easily the worst game in the series, sadly. It simultaneously has perhaps the best plot since the first game, and easily has the best representation of women. I would consider it on the good/mediocre bubble. Enough positives that I played it to completion, but enough negatives that I'm not sure I'd recommend it. A group of people I would definitely not recommend it to is Dead Rising fans. It is a huge deviation from the traditional architecture of the series's games (and for the worse). It's incredibly easy, combat doesn't feel punchy, there is precisely one decent boss (the final boss), and rescuing survivors is basically a non-factor. Yet I'm also not sure the changes this game made would really afford it a much better mainstream appeal either. Not sure whom the developers were trying to please, but it definitely was not DR fans. Shame. Like I said, still a fair game, but not much more than that.

That's too bad! Never played 3, but I even thought with the second game it was a bit too easy.

I finished it a few days before that actually though I finished the Star World boss yesterday. I still want to work on getting all of the Star Coins but technically that's optional.
I always wanted to go back to this one to grab the star coins. I was stumped in World 8 (whatever the lava world was), couldn't find one of the secret exits to get the star coins in a different level.

First entry of 2017

Finished:
Paper Mario Color Splash (Wii U)

This was a nice game to close 2016 and open 2017. Really charming game with hilarious dialogue and scenarios. The battle system isn't at a series high, but a great improvement from Sticker Star. The game shifts focus more to exploring environments than battling enemies. Some really creative stuff in here.

Shantae done! This was a quick one, only took about 8 hours to complete.

I beat Unravel (PS4) today. I need to find 4 more secrets, complete most of the collectibles in each stage, and do each stage without dying to complete/Platinum the game. This is a pretty bad platformer. Definitely glad I waited until it was yarn-cheap before I took a chance on it, because I would have been sorely disappointed to have paid $10 or more for this.

Beaten:
1/7 - Dead Rising 4 (Xbone)
1/15 - Pokémon Luna (3DS)

This game was a lot of fun. A breath of fresh air for the series. The change in structure wasn't even that radical, but a willingness by Game Freak to change things up at all was nice. This is also possibly the first time I've ever built a team that consisted of a majority of Pokémon new to the game in question (excluding Red and Blue, of course). Only exceptions were Gengar and Porygon2, the former of which I've used in every game since I was 5. I also played this in Spanish, which I've done with every Pokémon since they started allowing the option. Was as rewarding as ever. Probably the only thing keeping me from losing my hold on the language.

I'd recommend this game to anyone who got tired of Pokémon a few generations ago if the reason was more the formula than the mechanics. It's a neat new look at how to make a mainline Pokémon game.

I beat Final Fantasy: All the Bravest (Mobile) today. Yes, it surprisingly has an ending. It's just a trash mobile swipe-fest, but it was a good time-killer on commutes. Much less effort intensive than the Picross games that were my usual commute buddies (I'll go back to them now).
