Mixed Reality

Microsoft is sending "mixed reality" headsets out to X1/Win10 developers this month, with the aim of having the system up and running in 2018.
I don't know the ins and outs of this technology and where it fits in the current VR landscape. Maybe someone like Spore could speak to that in greater detail. Being marketing material, they certainly do make it sound interesting.
