Your 2018 Game(s) of the Year!

Post by SkyPikachu »

We're only 2 months in but it would be interesting to see everyone's list changing throughout the year.

I'll leave this from last years post (credit to Kong)

Suggested categories:
  • Best game(s) of 2018.
  • Best game you played in 2018 that didn't really come out in 2018.
  • Biggest disappointment of 2018. (TONe GotY Razzies?)

Despite being a slow start, 2018 was blessed with a fantastic game, Celeste.

I really did feel like this game was something special. It melded gameplay and story so well, not just in terms of pacing, but the difficult nature of the story was represented through the tough as nails gameplay. I felt it knocked it out of the park in all aspects. I will probably never 100% it (legitimately), but I loved every minute of it. I'm actually itching to play through it AGAIN after working through the B sides and main strawberries.

Monster Hunter is going to be tough to dethrone. Had it released in December it'd have taken 2017, so I feel safe in assuming this will stay at the top of my list throughout 2018. Celeste will surely be a contender when I get to it, and Iconoclasts has been impressing, but likely won't hold up.

Monster Hunter World will the last thing Capcom does exactly right in a long time (because their practice(s) in general are/is bad), so I also say early game of the year winner for that one.

Unless Sony and Nintendo can pull a little magic with God of War and Metroid, among their other strongest or notable respective properties.

Trimming off PS3 and Vita isn't happening until March 2019, and even then, we don't know if it'll mean going down to 2 games per month.

Asked for clarification on the numbers, a PlayStation representative told Polygon that Sony will continue to offer two PS4 games per month — and no other free titles. That means subscribers will be losing two-thirds of the current monthly total.

I’m more so saying the announcement is disappointing.
