How are "real" Smash tourneys usually setup with regards to Stock/Time? Items (final smashes?)? Stages? Character selection (blind, set, swap between alternates, etc.)?

Happy to be experimental and casual here, or hardest core, depending on everyone's preferences.

Ouuu I'm in!

I don't know the exact rule sets you'd see in tournament play, but I feel it's something like 1v1, no items, 3 stock 7 minutes, stage morph off.

When it comes to stages, they narrow it down quite a bit and do a process of alternating and striking picks between players. I think tournaments are also doing hazards off, but I think that can also be a per stage basis.

I personally don't need a real limited set of stages, but generally moving stages and stages where you can walk off screen are banned. I like walk off stages here and there, but they they favor certain characters and you lose ledge play. I'm also open to stage morph (not sure if you can do that online)

1v1 is probably the most competitive, and the most realistic rule set we could do, as it's hard enough for 2 people to find the same time to play.

I'm open to items, could also be a side event kind of thing.

I'd say no limit to the characters used.

I like 1v1 3 stock 7 minutes, stage morph off.

I don't think we need to ban any characters, but we might need to think about how people select their characters so there's no counter-play/meta-play.

I'm open to all stages and all items. This is Smash after all, and this is a goofy community tournament, but I'm also open to limitations. Perhaps each participant could have a stage veto and an item veto that we strike from the list. I love that Smash is granular enough to allow for this.

I have Smash but still no Nintendo Online.
I was waiting for the right occasion. Could it be this?

[EDIT]
I usually play 2'30", 3 lives (never get to timeout). All objects, no spirits.

Also, might be important to remind, I'm in Italy: GMT+1

I don't have it either, but it's cheap. Whether this ends up being the right occasion will remain to be seen, since I'm sure it'll be a minor shit show.

Nope, I was wrong. I have no time limit in my standard setup.

Could set up a big TONe family account! Pretty sure Kreegs was offering people to join his existing one.

There's no rush to start this. Just putting the feelers out, getting interest, and getting input on rules/format. If we launch this a couple weeks after BGE launches, then we might get some more people here who want to play.

Clay?
Spore?
Kreegs?
