Despite never having won, Tetris (1989, GB) has been the most consistent game in the history of this Project. It placed 3rd in the 2010 and 2012 events, and was the runner-up behind Super Mario Bros. 3 in 2015.
Metal Gear Solid (1998, PS1) has had its ups and downs. After barely making it into the Top 16 in 2010, it was the runner-up in 2012 behind Chrono Trigger. In 2015, its stock dropped precipitously as it exited the Project during the Top 32 in a head-to-head round against Red Dead Redemption.

I’ve been waiting for the sun to come up. Waiting for the showers to stop. Waiting for the penny to drop. One time. And I’ve been standing in a cloud of plans. Standing on the shifting sands. Hoping for an open hand. One time.
Metal Gear Solid easily. Tetris is perfect in a certain sense of the word, but much in the same way that the perfect hamburger can't outpunch a perfect steak dinner (substitute meals of your choosing if my analogy doesn't hold for you), it simply is out of its weight class against Metal Gear Solid. I'm not even sure I think MGS1 is the best entry in its own series, but I damn sure know it's better than Tetris. It gets my vote for sure.
I'm convinced MGS will never win the whole thing until more of this forum has played it, though.

There's more than just this forum voting on this event.
My secret hope is that Tetris will win once and then people can be satisfied with its BGE legacy and start feeling OK about letting it slide out of the tournament in some of the "close matches" it gets into earlier on.
