Re: What are you reading?
I finished A Logical Magician (delayed slightly as one of my kids was frightened by the cover, which has a kind of electric demon getting sucked into a computer... I sometimes read in their room as they're going to sleep). It's about what I remembered, a bit of a fun romp with a few interesting idea...

Re: What are you playing right now?
I am really bad at strategizing in these kinds of games, though. It's really tough, and the best strategy can fall prey to the luck of the draw. You have to hedge your bets a bit early on, and the difference between a great run and an early loss can be finding the right card/relic to unlock a strat...

Re: Playstation 5
That's pretty expensive. Most people who have a PS5 probably wouldn't spend $700 USD (or the trade-in differential) to upgrade, and most who don't have one yet were probably not committing for price reasons rather than graphics/performance reasons. I'm out of the Playstation ecosystem for now, thoug...

Re: What are you playing right now?
Nearly a month later, I've dropped most of last month's games and picked up some new ones. Ember Knights is still in the running as we "beat" it once, but it appears to do a "pick difficulty upgrade" challenge. We're still unlocking relics, upgrading weapons and skills etc so I'm...

Re: What are you playing right now?
I've mostly been playing older games. Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence seems to be one of the better regarded NA games, and I can see why. There's a kind of purity to it that echoes Romance of the Three Kingdoms 9, although you can step in to manually control combat and the town building is ...

Re: What are you reading?
I finished Michael Moorcock's Castle Brass , which was a little disorienting having not read the preceding series History of the Runestaff - but nonetheless it was clearly written to be accessible despite not having that context. It may accidentally have made things more interesting for me, since th...

Re: Steam Deck: Valve's PC Switch
As mentioned in another thread, I picked up one of the OLED models as a PC-upgrade replacement (Graphics card update would've been $200, CPU/Mobo update more... so might as well go all in). I've been really impressed by how it feels in the hands - the switch feels kind of uncomfortable by comparison...

Re: What are you reading?
I've been off the reading train (aside from a work-related book), not really intentionally but just an inertia thing. I was looking for something light and at least a little unusual, and found a copy of The Dark World (Henry Kuttner, though possibly C.L. Moore as well), released 1946, in a used book...

Re: What are you playing right now?
I got a Steam Deck for Father's Day, so I've been playing several Steam games I hadn't played in a bit to try it out. I replayed Recettear start to story-end (not going crazy with dungeons/adventurers - didn't even beat Jade Way) and enjoyed most of it. It was slightly easier than I remembered, but ...

Re: What are you playing right now?
Beat Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. Enjoyed it. Also picked up and beat 1000xResist, sci-fi walking sim. Enjoyed it a lot although it was very intense in places. It's the first game to make me cry in at least a decade, so there's that. I'm currently partway through Shining Force 2 on Switch Gene...
