Welcome to This Old Neon’s community forum! Our vision is to work in concert with This Old Neon to promote and expand the unique and complex interrrelationships between gamers, games, culture, and society. We are committed to fostering a diverse and tolerant community where people with disparate backgrounds and experiences can come together on the common ground of gaming.
In the interests of creating a civil, friendly, and welcoming community, we ask all members to abide by the basic rules and guidelines outlined in this thread. Continued participation at This Old Neon implies acceptance of these terms.
Explicit Content
While we do not censor language at This Old Neon, we do not allow members to post explicit content, including explicitly pornographic material or excessively violent or gruesome material. Offending content will be removed at the discretion of the moderation team. Use your best judgement.
Flaming & Trolling
Our members will inevitably disagree with one another from time to time. We encourage impassioned debate, but we also take pride in our community and friendships. Please do not attack or insult other members with the intention of offending them. Avoid passive-aggressive or inflammatory remarks, baiting emotional responses, and disruptive behaviour.
We have a zero-tolerance policy regarding sexual harrassment and hateful language. If you make unwanted sexual advances or use hateful epithets on the basis of a person’s sex, race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, nationality, religion, etc. your account privileges may be suspended.
Software Piracy
We do not support or encourage illegal software piracy. We acknowledge that some members may independently make use of emulators and pirated software and we will not prevent discussion that may involve those activities; however, we ask that you not provide or ask for pirated software, or post links to sites that host such content.
Spam
Please refrain from making posts that could be considered spam. As a general rule, your posts should contribute to the discussion. If you make multiple off-topic posts or posts that contain little to no content, a member of the moderation team may delete them.
Avoid double-posting where possible. Following one of your own posts directly with another can sometime be appropriate, if the tone of the conversation changes or if the previous post happened some time ago, but in most cases it’s best simply to use the edit function.
A member who seeks solely to advertise a business or website without first making an effort to forge relationships in this community will have the offending posts deleted. Private messages should never be used for advertising or promotion.
Moderation
The moderation team’s duty is to ensure that this community is as welcoming and respectful as possible. They work hard to maintain our community standards and to resolve issues in as friendly and peaceful a manner as possible.
Warnings
Breach of any of these rules, or any other conduct that is deemed to be disruptive to the ongoing smooth operation of the forum community, at the discretion of the moderation team, may result in an official warning. Warnings will be attached to your account, and will expire over time.
Bans
Accumulation of multiple warnings within a short time may result in a temporary or even a permanent ban. Some abuses of site privileges may result in an immediate and permanent ban.
Reporting
If you see a post or receive a private message that violates one of our forum rules, please contact a member of the moderation team. Please do not attempt to moderate the behaviour yourself, as this can often lead to arguments, despite the best intentions.
If you ever have any questions about these rules, about whether a post is acceptable, or about any aspect of forum life, please feel free to contact a member of the team. We will be happy to help in any way we can.
