Yeah Mario Maker, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Halo 5 I think as well.
Problem with best 2015 game is there will be very few games several people have played. Still interesting to do.

If you want to do a meaningful Game of the Year poll, make it about 2014. 2015 isn't even over. We've only had weeks or days to play some new releases. My two games of the year 2014 didn't come out until December. I didn't play them until 2015.

I was thinking that would be more effective as well.

I hate the idea of game of the year and always have. I prefer competitions which compare games of similar genres. At least then it's not comparing apples to motor oil. I'd prefer if we had like "best rpg," "best shooter," etc.

That's pretty broad and implies false assumptions about Nintendo superiority. It's more likely we'll do a handful of platform-based side-events (best Sega game, best PlayStation game, best arcade game, etc.).
