SE1: Survivor Series: Finals

Post by This Old Neon »

Welcome to the "BEST GAME EVER!!!" Project's first Side-Event: the Survivor Series!

You can vote for 2 games in this bracket. Vote carefully—you can't change your vote after submitting it. The top game at the end of the week will be crowned the most tenacious preliminary round survivor. A fan favourite, if you will. To get through several rounds of preliminary action and then make it all the way through this side-event... these games are definitely worth checking out.

2000 - Paper Mario - N64
2012 - XCOM: Enemy Unknown / Enemy Within - Multiplatform
1997 - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - PS1
1995 - Suikoden - PS1
2001 - Pikmin - GCN
2013 - Papers, Please - PC
2014 - Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition - PC
1994 - Doom II: Hell on Earth - PC

You are encouraged to discuss your choices and your reasons for selecting the game you did.

Holy guacamole, this actually ended up resulting in a fairly difficult final round! Kudos to Pluvius for suggesting this side-event.

XCOM is amazing. Symphony of the Night is legendary. Suikoden is great. Papers, Please is fresh and important. Guacamelee! is finely-honed and incredibly fun. Doom II is genre-defining. I haven't played Paper Mario, but the fact that it ended up in this company must surely speak to its quality, right?

I'm going to have a tough time deciding on two of those six games.

Yeah, Paper Mario is really good. The sequel is better though, imo.

Wow, this ended this morning!

XCOM: Enemy Unknown / Enemy Within (Multiplatform, 2012) was chosen as the best game that managed to progress through at least three preliminary rounds before being eliminated. It's available on PC, PS360, and Mobile (not sure which mobile platforms), so perhaps you should check it out if you're at all interested in strategy games. It's turn-based, so if you have RTS anxiety you don't need to be intimidated.

Runners-up were Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (largely considered to be the peak of the storied series and possibly the genre) and Doom II: Hell on Earth.
