Sony is finally going to allow users to change their PSN IDs. They're starting with a preview/pilot program that runs until November, and then they're going to launch the service for all members in early 2019.
Looks like your first ID change will be free, and all ID changes after that will cost $10 (discounted to $5 if you're a PS+ subscriber). If you run into trouble, you can revert to an old ID for free. There will also be an option to display your old ID on your profile so friends don't get confused at who you are...
I got in early with a great ID so I don't have any plans to take advantage of this service, but it'll be nice for people who want it.
