For example, I wouldn't be particularly keen on voting for a game which is merely a sequel which has barely changed from the previous X versions aside from adding online play while being handheld which is more standard progression than any actual innovation.Slurmee wrote: ↑27 Feb 2019 01:25I don't think you grasp how different people see games differently and have different tastes to you.
For example I haven't spoken about this before but Animal Crossing new leaf quiet possibly saved me life. I. tried to kill myself shortly before it's release then found the game and started playing it. The game hooked me and I played over 500 hours of it. The game gave me something to wake up for everyday and a fun escape from life. I started making friends who also played the game on the net. This alone puts the game in the top 5 list for me. Saying its not BGE material is pretty harsh and saying some games flat out shouldn't be here is harsh as well. Someone liked a game enough to nominate it and it must mean something to them.
Also I'm not sure if this is just me but I try to nominate my top 30 or so games ever because the list for me is about ranking the games. So all these games deserve to be here. Quiet likely only 1 or these games will make it far out but these games get to shape the lower half of the standings.
This is the beauty of BGE though, different minds nominating for and voting for different games for any reason they see fit. Some might agree, and that's great, some might not agree and that's okay as well, everyone is entitled to their own reasoning and to agree with or disagree with any nominations placed so far. You shouldn't take it personally when someone doesn't think your pick is BGE material, it's not an attack on you or your opinion it is just a different view. Debate and discussion around picks including why and why not should be encouraged. I enjoy hearing why some people wouldn't pick certain games or why they would pick A over B etc. Plus I might hear some new viewpoints I didn't consider myself which may influence my voting decision (e.g. Pac-man being possibly the first ever game with named characters. I hadn't even considered that and it's a pretty cool point if you ask me)

What exactly does stating these shouldn't be nominated bring to the discussion.
It's just attacking the person that nominated that game saying their pick isnt worthy.
Just say you like A game over B game more instead of attacking people's nominations or simply ask someone why the nominated or voted for said game to get an actual discussion.
To be clear I don't care that you don't like certain games I do care when you tell me it shouldn't have been nominated.

I'm perfectly entitled to say why I abstained from voting for certain polls or titles or why I would or wouldn't vote for certain games or polls.Slurmee wrote: ↑27 Feb 2019 16:15

No matter how much you may not like it, disagreeing with nominations and not considering them BGE worthy is not the same as attacking a person.
And I'm not even trying to say those games are bad as I've played and enjoyed a fair few of them but they're not the best games I've ever played

One is saying I don't like this game the other is saying this game flat out is horrible and shouldn't even be here.
Any game has a right to be nominated even if you flat out hate the game its allowed to be nominated.

I do like many of them these titles I'm not arguing they're bad games or that I hate them because I don't consider them BGE Material. A game doesn't have to bad in my eyes to not be BGE material. I'm saying they don't weigh up to my own personal requirements for BGE. Don't forget different people have different criteria, how much I like a game isn't directly tied to why I think something should be BGE.
Let me give you an example that might make it easier to understand-
PN03 Gamecube
Absolutely loved this game on GameCube,it was fun and addictive and I liked the arcadeyness of it. But I also don't consider it one of the best games ever because it was short, it didn't do anything new, graphics were average and it got pretty mediocre reviews and absolutely bombed in sales too. Despite its flaws I love playing it though.
Opposite end of the scale -
World of Warcraft - pc
Hate mmorpgs, played it and didn't care for that type of gameplay. But I'd consider it insanely influential and innovative in some of the things they've done, how well Blizzard looked after their fans and just how hugely popular it became nothing ever beat it at its own game. So I still consider it BGE material because of that. While I didn't directly nominate it I'd definitely consider voting for it in a poll (depending what it was up against of course)
At no point have I argued games don't have a right to be nominated. At no point have I said I hate any of the nominations.
I've only clearly stated I wouldn't vote for them because I simply don't consider them worthy of being in BGE for my own personal reasons and criteria which may well be different to whomever nominated those titles.

No worries man. Apologies if I came across as my opinion > your opinion or something that definitely wasn't intended. Not trying to invalidate anyone's nominations, just explaining why I wouldn't nominate or vote for them myself. I wanted to be clear I wasn't avoiding voting because I didn't like them or hadn't played any of the titles because that simply wouldn't be true.Slurmee wrote: ↑27 Feb 2019 18:42Oh I totally read that wrong then, thanks for explaining it in simple terms.Ouenben wrote: ↑27 Feb 2019 18:31You're completely misunderstanding.Slurmee wrote: ↑27 Feb 2019 18:07

Re: 2019 MAIN EVENT Round One
I will say, the overwhelming majority of games I nominated I don't consider to be the "best game ever". I nominated a lot of games because I'm interested to see how they rank among the others. I would rather know that people think Nintendo Land should sit at the bottom of the list than to not have it on the list at all. Others take a different approach and only nominate games they believe are contenders for the "best game ever". To me part of the appeal is having a massive list of games that we slowly cut down to find the real gems.
This round has already been interesting as the top games secure their spots. Some of the other games never had a chance, but it's nice to see the discussion nevertheless.

Nintendo land was a really fun pack in game. Did a good job of showing off the possibilities of the Wii U pad. Luigi's mansion was very fun with friends /family as was the Mario tag one. Definitely not a game I'd pick for BGE thoughThe Shoemaker wrote: ↑27 Feb 2019 23:15 I will say, the overwhelming majority of games I nominated I don't consider to be the "best game ever". Speaking of pack in games it's a shame 1,2 switch didn't come packed in with the Switch as it was fun but not worth very much as a standalone game. Was amazed by the game makes you guess how many balls in the box as the rumble felt so realistic was super impressed.
