Best Mech Customization (Round Two)

Post by SkyPikachu »

Welcome to This Old Neon’s fourth official “BEST GAME EVER!!!” Project.

Round Two of the “Best Mech Customization” side-event includes the next batch of low-seeded games in addition to the Round One winners. There are 2 polls of 5-6 games each. If a game you nominated doesn’t appear in these polls, it probably seeded high enough to get a bye into a later round.

You can vote for 1-2 games per poll, or skip a poll entirely.
The top 3 games from each poll will advance to the category finals!
You can’t change your votes once they’ve been submitted, so click carefully. Voting closes on Saturday at midnight AST.
Don’t forget to vote in the main event and find your way to the other user-submitted categories at https://thisoldneon.com/bge !

I've played Fallout 4 and it wasn't my thing (limited ammo bothers me a lot in fps games)

I voted Xenoblade Chronicles X as it's a beautiful game to look at.

Haven't played anything other than Fallout 4.

Do you mean the mech customization interface is beautiful to look at? The rest of the game is pretty irrelevant.

The mechs are beautiful to look at (and the game in general)

Can an Interface be beautiful? They're usually just menus right? I guess what the interface is able to produce to beautiful.

I don't know, you're the one who said you voted for it because it has the most beautiful mech customization options to look at.

We're voting on the customization which include what the mechs look like afterwards not just the interface/menu. You're the one that said i meant the interface was beautiful.

Poll 1 of 2 - The CUSTOM Bracket
Armored Core (1997, PS1)
Custom Robo (1999, N64)
Custom Robo (2004, GCN)
Earthsiege 2 (1996, PC)
Into the Breach (2018, NS/PC)
Starsiege (1999, PC)

Into the Breach is a great "full package" game, but because of its one-shot nature, it doesn't really scratch the itch of deep mech building & customization for me. Great game, just not for this round of this category.

Poll 2 of 2 - The STRANGER Bracket
Fallout 4 (2015, Multiplatform)
MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat (1995, PC)
Robotrek (1994, SNES)

Xenoblade Chronicles X (2015, Wii U)
Xenogears (1998, PS1)

MechWarrior 2 was perhaps the first game that got me hooked on makin' mechs!

Robotrek isn't technically about mechs, since your character doesn't ride inside them, but it does have quite a satisfying spin on traditional RPG equipment (putting your mechs together with various weapons and parts), so I'm giving it a vote in this round, but I probably won't continue supporting it later on.

I'm properly surprised by how little I play/have played mech games. But looking at what I've played and what I have... turns out I just like fancy spaceships.

Chomehounds is the only game I can put real passion behind, and about 10 people played that one so, huh, not a strong poll for me at all!

Did someone here actually play the Japan only N64 version of Custom robo?

I really enjoyed the GCN version. Very fun gameplay and a half decent story.

Yes, I have a copy of the two Japanese Custom Robo games on the N64. I have only played and beat the first of the two games (with the help of a translation guide) and it was pretty fun. I have not played the GameCube Custom Robo. I have played so few games with mech customization that I just nominated all of them for the sack of variety in the polls. That being said, I completely forgot about nominating Xenogears. Xenogears and Robotrek got my votes this round.
