Welcome to This Old Neon’s fourth official “BEST GAME EVER!!!” Project.
Round Two of the “Best Game You’ve Never Played (Ever)” side-event includes the next batch of games as well as the winners of Round One. There are 5 polls of 7-8 games each. If a game you nominated doesn’t appear in these polls, it probably seeded high enough to get a bye into a later round.
Unlike other post in this crossed out game are games I've played.
Poll 1 of 5
Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn (2000, PC) Beyond Good & Evil (2003, Multiplatform) BioShock (2008, Multiplatform)
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (1997, PS1) Celeste (2018, Multiplatform)
Elite (1984, PC) Pokémon [Blue/Red] Version (1996, GB)
Beyond Good & Evil looks really fun I actually own it on Xbox One and Steam I'll be streaming it at some point.
Poll 2 of 5 Dark Souls (2011, Multiplatform)
Fallout: New Vegas (2010, Multiplatform) Metroid Prime (2002, GCN)
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (2004, GCN)
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (2007, Wii) Red Dead Redemption (2010, Multiplatform)
Super Metroid (1994, SNES)
I stay clear from hard games so this is a never touch title. Regardless I've heard nothing but wonders about this game (other than it breaks controllers).
Poll 3 of 5 Chrono Trigger (1995, SNES) Kingdom Hearts III (2019, PS4/XBO) Portal (2007, Multiplatform)
Portal 2 (2011, Multiplatform) Rocket League (2015, Multiplatform)
Shenmue (1999, DC) Spider-Man (2018, PS4)
Three games on my to play list. Spiderman looks amazing. Rocket League is such an interesting concept and Kingdom Hearts III is part of a series I love.
Poll 4 of 5
Firewatch (2016, Multiplatform)
Panzer Dragoon Saga (1998, Saturn) Persona 4 [incl. Golden] (2008, PS2/Vita)
Planescape: Torment (1999, PC)
Seiken Densetsu 3 (1995, SNES)
Shining in the Darkness (1991, Genesis)
XCOM: Enemy [Unknown/Within] (2012, Multiplatform)
Vita forums make this game out to be some oh godly game. I'm guessing it's not as good as 5 but it's know as a very solid series nonetheless.
Poll 5 of 5 Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (2004, GCN)
The Last of Us (2013, PS3)
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (1991, SNES) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017, NS)
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (2000, N64) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998, N64)
Sid Meier's Civilization IV (2010, PC) Super Mario 64 (1996, N64)
I nominated AlttP and Paper Mario Ttyd so they're easy pick but I've also heard great things about The Last of Us as it looks really cool.

Am I confusing it with something else in the series? You die a lot right?
Yes. That doesn't mean it's hard, though. Dying is a progression mechanic. You can stealth/ambush a lot of the enemies. Great game. Especially for it to be in a category like this, of best games you've never played, I recommend not letting its reputation stop you from at least trying it. Just don't spend lots of money on it if you're not sure it'd be for you.
I might stream a re-run through the first one sometime, actually.

I nominated Paper Mario and Alttp. I skipped the GCN completely and games like that are super expensive. Virtual Console for GCN doesn't exist so bad luck to me.

Alttp is just a game I keep putting off playing.
My confusion is more along the lines of, I feel I could almost vote for any of these games, but not because they're all great and essential, but more because they're all at the same middling level of required-playing with some caveats.
Breath of the Wild is probably the best non-Last-of-Us game on the list, but I feel like it's too new/recent to really recommend it as an essential gap, since a lot of people simply haven't had the chance to play it yet. Majora's Mask is an overall better game than Ocarina of Time.
I guess I answered my question, though. A Link to the Past is essential, and The Last of Us is a better game than the rest of them.
