So in the end the only things the DSi had that the rest of the DS line didn't have is really the eshop download service.
No version of the regular DS had a camera, Kawaii. Some peripheral that only came with an obscure Japanese only game is not the same thing as an inbuilt camera and software. However poor it was.
Well what I ment is the Accessory itself so Nintendo didn't need to release a version of the DS with a built in camera instead of waiting for the 3DS.

Still the release of the N3DS does seem to be too soon.
the DS Was released in 2004 & the 3DS in 2011 so that's 7 years before the DS had a successor.
Yet on the other hand the N3DS being released in late 2014 to early 2015 that cutting it short to 3 years which is less than half the time for a 3DS successor to be released.

That short of time plus the extra man power that Nintendo must have hired means that Nintendo possibly be missing out by releasing an entirely new system way too soon.

They should have waited a couple of years at least used the extra time to developed it & without the extra staff needed.

I think it's only extended by 2 hours, estimated 3.5-7 hours. But the fact that you can remove the back of the system easily makes me think you'll be able to replace the battery.
Well Nintendo has yet do an Apple as all of there portables do have user removable batteries so you should be able to order new batteries from your local Nintendo distribution center.

Well early adopters of the 3DS had a bunch of GBA games, thou how GBA games behaved as compared to other VC games which leads me to believe that the GBA games more or less be emulated via virtualization or otherwise a "Virtual Machine".
They may need to fully emulate the Zilog z80 to do a full GBA emulation.
Then again Nintendo already knows how to emulate a Z80 chip on the 3DS as via the GB/GBC games on the VC.

In fact depending if you can virtualize a Z80 or not Nintendo might have been able to do a GBA VC on the DSi via the Z80 instructions withing the systems 33MHz CPU as it's basicly a leftover by having the same chipset as a DS.
then again the Z80 being an oder design might limit the number of GBA games that the DSi could run.

so to cut this short the 3DS could run any GBA games if they could port the Z80 emu code to the GBA Virtual Console platform & have it running along side the ARM VM code.

It's not Z80 it's a Sharp LR35902 that the Gameboy and GBA use.

Wikipedia wrote:CPU: Custom 8-bit Sharp LR35902[19] core at 4.19 MHz. This processor is similar to an Intel 8080 in that none of the registers introduced in the Z80 are present. However, some of the Z80's instruction set enhancements over the stock 8080, particularly bit manipulation, are present. Still other instructions are unique to this particular flavor of Z80 CPU. The core also contains integrated sound generation.[20]
I stand corrected.
Still the chip do also contains some Z80 instructions along some the modified 808 instructions.

Can't say I'm enthousiastic or disappointed by this 'new' 3DS. Name aside, it has my interest in that I'm curious about what exclusive games it'll get. Xenoblade isn't a seller for me, so they'll have to come with something better to get me to want the 'new' 3DS.

Ugh, horrible move. Needs at least 5 quality exclusives to convince me. Xenoblade Chronicles is one of them, though.

At least it's much better on New 3DS, than the DSi (in terms of physical exclusives). Outside the DSi Shop, that system had nothing. Only thing close were "hybrids" (DS cards that were region locked on a DSi, if it had additional DSi features.

Wait I'm confused does this new console not play games the original 3DS does?

I'm thinking it might be worth upgrading this from my original 3DS as it hurts to hold after a while. Think it would be worth it? Or should I go for the Original XL?

Yes it plays all 3DS games. I'd say you should wait for the New 3DS XL if you want to upgrade.

It plays games that the earlier 3DS/3DSXL systems play, and will play games that those earlier systems won't play.

Anyways I placed a pre-order on it (the Japanese model of course!). Not sure how much exactly I will be charged after all fees...
