1.)Region Locking
Idea that we forced to but multiple consoles to play some games.
2.)Released too soon
the DS Had 7 years till the release of the 3DS, yet the 3DS only have 3 years with the release of this.
3.)Name related confusion
New 3DS sounds too much like 3DS, so people would think it's really a 3DS 4.1 & 4.2 instead of it being a 3DS successor
Even with the 3DS some people thought it's nothing more than a DS5 yet really it's a new system with new CPU's & the addition of a GPU thus meaning that it's now way it's just a 3DS.
With the N3DS having more proccessing power means it's a new system not another 3DS at all.
I think the name "new 3DS" does exactly what it's supposed to do, let people know that it's a 3DS 2.0 :p Because that's all it is, this is not the successor to the 3DS itself. If that was the case they would drop all support for the 3DS and only support the new 3DS, which isn't the case, and that's not how their advertising it either.
Too bad about region locking, but if this model didn't have region locking, couldn't they just update the feature out of the old 3DS's as well?
I think I definitely like the XL better now, the face plates on the small one is nice, but I think they're too flashy for me. I really like the metallic sleek look of the new blue XL.

Re: "new" Nintendo 3DS announced
If it's anything like the real-estate difference between the 3DS and the XL, then it's worth it. The 3DS XL is beautiful. The only thing that makes me prefer the small-sized New is the white console with the bright buttons. They're cute. But that's just appearance, not function. Certainly not worth buying a worse console over. The Shoemaker wrote:I think I definitely like the XL better now, the face plates on the small one is nice, but I think they're too flashy for me. I'm with Yasume, though. Xenoblade alone isn't enough to make me upgrade to one of these. If we start to see more enticing games come out with no 3DS support, especially RPGs or especially-especially strategy games, then I'll think about trading my XL for a New XL.
Actually, that raises an interesting point. Since Nintendo doesn't yet have a good shop/account system, I don't think we'll be able to simply transfer digital games from a current system to a new one without owning both and going through their clunky transfer process. Looks like a system trade-in isn't a good option after all...

Re: "new" Nintendo 3DS announced
That's just the thing, I don't think I can go back to the small screen after using the XL, even if the new 3DS has slightly larger screens. But yeah, you'll need to keep both if you want to transfer data. It seems a bit inconveinent, but I've always found that selling on Kijiji gives me more bang for my buck anyways. EB Games was offering $60 for my 3DS when I wanted to get an XL, instead I sold it online for $120 after I bought the XL.Kong Wen wrote:If it's anything like the real-estate difference between the 3DS and the XL, then it's worth it. Re: "new" Nintendo 3DS announced
Last year, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said a lot of words .Kong Wen wrote:The new 3DS, like its predecessor, will be region-locked.
"From some people's perspective, it might seem like a kind of restriction. However, we hope people can appreciate the fact that we're selling our products worldwide," Iwata said at the time.
"There are many different regions around the world, and each region has its own cultural acceptance and legal restrictions, as well as different age ratings. There are always things that we're required to do in each different region, which may go counter to the idea that players around the world want the freedom to play whatever they want."
What an absolute load of bullshit. What nonsense is he implying here? That Nintendo could somehow be legally responsible if someone, through their own volition, imports a title that is culturally insensitive or legally unavailable in their own country? Doesn't this "argument" fall apart completely when one considers that German Nintendo players are free to import and play games deemed culturally insensitive or banned in Germany from the rest of Europe?
it wasn't even that difficult to get around doing this on the VC!

Re: "new" Nintendo 3DS announced
It would be my first Japanese video game console (and also since Nintendo is based in Japan, I thought it would be pretty special!)The Shoemaker wrote:Any reason you're getting the Japanese model?
I also want to check out some of the Nintendo eShop games that Japan has... their Virtual Console games (that were originally only available in the region), and a whole truck load (if there still is) of FTP/demos of various games. Might check out some DSiWare too (the rest of the G.G series if it's still there...)
But in general, I'll probably look into:
- 3D Classics (Nintendo / SEGA [even though I already have all by the former])
- Virtual Console - games exclusive to Japan (when it comes to original release on GB/GBC/GG/FC)
- demo versions of games / free-to-play titles
- SkyPikachu

Oh wow so this is like the gameboy color where it can play exactly the same games as the old model but is an upgrade.kawaiipikachu wrote:another in the list of Issues with the N3DS.pdSlooper wrote:Requisite "fuck region-locking" post.
