I don't need to qualify my vote for FFV here because there's no "original" version in the west for me to prefer.
Shining in the Darkness gets my second vote. Really charming little dungeon-crawler in an era of dark, clunky dungeon-crawlers.
Gley Lancer is the only reason FFV & Shining didn't each get 3 votes. I had to toss it something.

I went with Shining in the Darkness for being my favorite dungeon crawler (I loved it so much I toyed with the idea of making a 3D model of the labyrinth before I got married). Also FFV...because jobs...plus it had to have some quality for getting me to keep coming back to it over the six years it took me to beat it. I did like the game but sheesh!
