TLOU2 was good, probably as good as the first game. Like most single player narrative games I thought they could have trimmed the fat in a few places and made a snappier, more enjoyable game. Narrative takes some risks for sure, I enjoyed the story it set out to tell. It's interesting seeing a portion of the internet rebel against the story of this game. To me it's a well written, well acted story with a logical continuation from the first game.

1/11 - Ghosts'n Goblins (PS3 [Arcade])
2/5 - Turok (Switch)
2/8 - Garou: Mark of the Wolves (PSN [Arcade])
2/17 - Makaimura for WonderSwan (WonderSwan)
3/3 - Bust-A-Move Pocket (Neo Geo Pocket Color)
3/7 - Luigi's Mansion 3 (Switch)
3/10 - Night Trap: 25th Anniversary Edition (PSN [Sega CD])
3/22 - Marvel's Spider-Man (PS4)
3/23 - Dragon Quest (Switch [NES])
3/26 - Panzer Dragoon: Remake (Switch)
4/4 - Doom 64 (Switch)
4/21 - Tearaway (PS Vita)
4/24 - Rocket Knight Adventures (Genesis)
5/1 - Streets of Rage 4 (PSN [PS4])
5/20 - Bare Knuckle III (Steam [Mega Drive])
5/21 - Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (GameCube)
5/23 - Forza Horizon 3: Horizon Hot Wheels (Xbone [DLC])
5/26 - Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition (Xbone)
7/2 - Star Wars Episode I: Racer (PSN [N64])
A friend of mine is very good at this game (ie at or near World Record level), so it has come up in conversation before, but I had never gotten around to playing it until this past week. I even have a Dreamcast copy that I never played! But when I saw this was coming to PSN, I had to finally give it a shot, and I'm sorry I waited so long! Ep 1 Racer is one of the fastest-feeling games I've ever played. I don't have the original to compare it to, but at least at 60fps and 1080p on PS4, it is absolutely lightning fast. This makes mastering the various tracks tricky and rewarding. Unfortunately, the big letdown of this game is that the AI is an absolute joke. Except for one particularly devious track, I was never once genuinely challenged by the AI, usually beating the racer in 2nd place by 10 seconds or more. I'd have liked a stiffer challenge. I genuinely think this is one of the fastest racing games I've ever played, but without challenging AI, it definitely falls flat from a single player perspective. If the races had ever felt competitive, it might've been one of my very favorite racers. I still quite enjoyed it, but when each races feels like more of a time trial than a genuine competition, it loses some of its appeal. Also, as much as I love the Williams pieces from the film, hearing "Duel of the Fates" about 20 times over can get annoying.
Anyway, good game, glad I played it. Certainly not worth $15, though. That's that Disney tax at work, I suppose.
Completed:
1/11 - Ghosts'n Goblins (PS3 [Arcade])
3/3 - Bust-A-Move Pocket (Neo Geo Pocket Color)
3/14 - Night Trap: 25th Anniversary Edition (PSN [Sega CD])
3/22 - Tearaway (PS Vita)
7/2 - Star Wars Episode I: Racer (PSN [N64])
I also platinumed this game, and while there is Mirror Mode to play, I've unlocked every character and upgrade and finished every track in 1st, so I consider the game completed.

Finally knocked this game out. Took me about 72 hours, although I'm sure it could've been beaten much faster by someone scorching through it. Really liked it. I've never played a JRPG with a real-time battle system, so that was a change of pace. Loved the unique setting and great soundtrack too. Don't think it's quite the mindblowing experience I'd been led to believe it was, but it was certainly fun. May have to give the epilogue a go once I'm less JRPG fatigued.

Glad you enjoyed it Clay! It's a very good RPG, I also wouldn't put it in the mindblowing category. I love all the characters voice actors and feel like their performance really shines through the story. And of course, love the music.Claytone wrote: ↑05 Jul 2020 06:21 Beaten:

Greatly enjoyed this game! My research had led me to believe this would be a slog, but I didn't find it to be that exactly. I really liked it, and I think it was less grindy than the first game frankly. The addition of quick save and some light guide usage obviously helped expedite things (perhaps substantially), but I was very pleased with how easy it was to proceed without a guide most of the time, which is not always a given in games of this scope in that era. Honestly I think anyone turned away by the NES version should do themselves a favor and try this. So many of the problems I read about were alleviated in this version, leaving little to complain about in my eyes. Looking forward to playing DQIII, which I know is supposed to be fantastic. If it's better than the first two, which I had a great deal of fun with, I'm sure I'll love it.

Yeah I was a fan of the voice acting too. Mileage varies so greatly with that in video games, so it was nice to have some solid VA the whole game. Especially as often as they talk. The Shoemaker wrote: ↑05 Jul 2020 19:41 Glad you enjoyed it Clay! It's a very good RPG, I also wouldn't put it in the mindblowing category. You can beat Tetris 99? I know it's been awhile since I booted it, but I guess there was a significant update?

I accomplished the primary goal of the game.

Re: 2020 Game Clear Thread
Ah did you come in first!? Congrats! My best finish is still second. The crown eludes me yet.
I was just checking that they hadn't added some single player content or anything.
Re: 2020 Game Clear Thread
If they did, you can bet they would charge for it.
