9/4 - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 [HD Remaster] (PS4 [PS1])
9/24 - Yakuza 0 (PS4)
10/4 - Maximo: Ghosts to Glory (PS2)

Finally bought a PS2! With October being the month for spooky games, it made perfect sense to continue my quest to beat every Ghosts'n Goblins game. Maximo is a great implementation of the concept into 3D. Although GnG is really a jump and shoot game like Mega Man, I think hack n slash makes more sense for 3D, so the shift was a smart call. If you want a great 3D action platformer, you could do far worse than giving Maximo a look, and if you want a challenging one, it's definitely up your alley. It's not perfect. Enemy variety is very low, and there are a few unfair bits (would it be GnG if there weren't?). Easily recommendable in spite of that. Will be interested to see if the second game builds on and improves the ideas of the original or is content to just be a humdrum sequel. I'll probably play it this month as well, so I'm sure I'll find out soon enough.

Also, gonna plug my blog one more time on here. Gonna start posting about my game clears over there too. I feel more at liberty to ramble on my own blog, and then my thoughts won't be property of the TONe shadow government. :neon:

3/22 - Tearaway (PS Vita)
7/2 - Star Wars Episode I: Racer (PSN [N64])

Sep 28. Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (Switch)
Oct 07. Super Mario 64 (Switch)

Complete:

Sep 20. Super Mario Sunshine (Switch)
Oct 07. Super Mario 64 (Switch)

This might be the first time I've gotten all 120 stars on my own? Sm64 is still a great game, though it has definitely aged. I found a lot of little maneuvers and tricks that made the game a lot easier to navigate, so it wasn't a real grind for 120, especially since you get stars so quickly.

I've technically gotten all the stars in all three Mario games now. Though I have to beat Galaxy again as Luigi if I want to real mark it as complete :?

That's the victory lap! It's fun! :)

Congrats on getting 'em all! I may have remarked in chat that I think this is the first compilation I've ever bought where I had already 100% completed every game on it lol. I plan to do so again for Galaxy, but I don't think I will for 64 and Sunshine. I'll beat 'em, but reaching 120 on those has some tedium with the 100 coin stars, blue coins, etc. Galaxy is all gold IMO.

It is! Though I've 100% Galaxy before so I might slowly work away at a Luigi run rather than brute force my way through it right now.

I'm not exactly sure why, but Galaxy felt like a bit of a slog to get all the stars, but it might just be that they all feel like a bit of grind when you're needlessly trying to do everything in the game. It might be the menu's of galaxy that makes it feel longer. You get out of a level then watch all the different counters go up, five pop ups later you save, then you gotta point at the blue star, open the map, pick where you want to go. And then pick the star, all with the pointer. Mario is also the slowest in Galaxy and you can't skip portions of a level in the way you can in the other two games.

This is compared to the other games where you mash A a couple times out of a level then jump back in to it.

But again, Galaxy is definitely the best game in the package, and the most consistent in its variety all the way to the end. Sunshine's blue coins can go **** themselves.

9/24 - Yakuza 0 (PS4)
10/4 - Maximo: Ghosts to Glory (PS2)
10/12 - Super Ghouls'n Ghosts (SNES)

My local game shop happened to have this in stock when I visited this weekend, so I figured there was no reason not to add it onto my October gaming schedule. I talked in chat about my misadventures with losing my progress twice to a power outage and a SNES crash, so I technically wrapped it up on Switch. Still marked it as an SNES clear on Backloggery, though, since I don't really "own" it on Switch anyway.

Great game! This is definitely more approachable than the first game for a beginner, and it's readily available on Switch Online for people who have it. And although I think the brutal difficulty is kind of the point with a game like this, the rewind feature is certainly there if you want a more casual Halloween jaunt. As with the rest of them, I highly recommend it if insanely challenging and occasionally unfair action platforming is your thing.

Yeah that's a good point, actually. Definitely a pretty long iteration delay between stars in SMG. I think that's part of why I blazed through 64 so fast. It's just so snappy and easy to get through. Still love Galaxy, though! But as I've said before, it's my favorite game ever, so it goes without saying it's my favorite game on the card.
