the DS had 7 years before the 3DS was released.
Now with the 3DS just 3 years in & gaining traction Nintendo more or less killed the 3DS before it started really get the sales it needed to succeed.

I even started a tread on Nintendolife discussing it.
the 3DS needed only 2 or 3 more years to give it the sales it can, just like the DS.
What do you mean? The new 3DS will boost the sales of the 3DS brand getting it closer to DS figures :P

And Nintendo is definitely holding back the new 3DS just to get rid of their shipment of old 3DS XL's, which is why those new special editions probably came out in the first place. I guess I would've thought they would want to get their new hardware out in time for the holidays and just knock down the price of the old 3DS's by $20 or so. Especially if they're looking to sell 12 million 3DS's this year, and last I checked they were maybe a quarter of the way there.

And I know Austrailians usually get the short end of the stick, no one's trying to have a competition to see who Nintendo neglects the most

What I mean is that it's way too soon for Nintendo to release a fully fledge successor to the 3DS.

Nintendo had basicly had the 7 years with the DS line & it's 4 models before they released it's successor the 3DS.

Yet the 3DS itself had only 3 years with 3 models & now Nintendo's already releasing it's successor the the "New" 3DS.

I would say it's not a "fully fledge" successor to the 3DS because it's still called a "3DS"... but then again we know how messed up Nintendo's system-naming policies have been for the past few years.

The same can be said with the 3DS as it has DS in it's name.
So really name alone doesn't really say anything.

That's pretty much what I just said.

I wouldn't call it a fully fledged successor, more like a half fledged successor ;)

The new 3DS isn't replacing the 3DS, the two systems are going to function along side each other. They will make some 3DS games, and some new 3DS games. Unlike a full successor they're not dropping support for the other console. The 3DS isn't dead now that the new 3DS is coming out, it will continue on until the actual full fledged successor comes out.

I really don't see how you can say the DSi wasn't the successor to the DS but say the new 3DS is the successor to the 3DS.

Well the N3DS is a full on hardware update with new processors & all yet the DSi only really has a few new features based on off the shelf componentry.

It's like comparing an old PC that has RAM added & a webcam plugged in vs a whole new system.
Unfortunately can't think of a better analogy.
Thing is they put in the extra effort to create new customized chips (e.g. processors) to make it a whole new system yet that is something that the DSi lacks.

But with the new 3DS all they did was literally add in some more RAM and not so literally a webcam plugged in :P

With the DSi they created some games that were only playable on the DSi. On the new 3DS they're creating some games that will only be playable on the new 3DS. I think the only difference is people might actually want to play the games the new 3DS is making.

I forgot to mention, I cancelled my order of the Japanese New 3DS, due to reduced work and poor decisions buying other things...

We don`t blame you!

New 3DS has launched in Japan already, it seems like it improves the overall 3DS experience. It works with some games that were circle pad pro compatable (MH3U) but not on others (Kid Icarus Uprising). It doesn`t seem to improve the preformance of older games, but does affect games that were developed with the new 3DS in mind. Both Smash Bros. and Monster Hunter 4U experience faster start up times and loading times within the games themselves.

The internet browser appears to be a lot better, some say even better than the Wii U`s browser (which I like). It can view HTML5 videos and play HTML5 games. I wonder if it has PDf support.

Apparently the sound is a little louder than on the regular 3DS XL, and the screen looks crisper - resolution is the same but the sceens might be a better quality. It also has a new brightness setting that can adjust the brightness based on how bright your surroundings are.
