I just finished reading the Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. Utterly fantastic book, but boy the ending left me bummed out. A great mystery novel, and a fascinating look at religion in the middle ages, but also kind of a tough recommendation. It is DENSE and full of long long passages of theology and arguments about schisms and politics in the 1300's Catholic church, and frankly can be a slog at times. Still, I'm very glad I read it

Finished the Silmarillion. Pretty fun book. Glad I gave it another chance while I was briefly in the mood for it. Next up: Friday and The Book of Five Rings!

Knocked out Five Rings. It was good. More about sword fighting with a theme of strategy than about strategy specifically. No problem though. I did see Eiji Yoshikawa wrote a Cushingura book which I’ve added to my wish list. For now I’ll keep reading Friday and Mars though.

Just finished my second reading of Friday. Can’t believe I read this as a child. I’m not terribly surprised but it’s probably the most adult book I’d read as a child. Anyway great book. If you love strong protagonists, strongly consider reading it. Especially if you are fond of sci-fi at all.
