Welcome to the #BGE2020 Elimination Round of 512!

Each game is seeded based on its performance in the two opening rounds of pools. Every game in the Upper Bracket has defeated multiple other games in 1-on-1 polls to get to this point. These are still the best of the best.

Polls are updated weekly, typically on Sunday or Monday. Check back throughout the week to make sure you don't miss a vote!

HOW TO VOTE

This is easy. You only get one vote per poll. The game with the most votes wins. In the event of a tie, the higher seed advances, so don't get complacent!

Final Fantasy X is a strong entry in the series, well-positioned after the weak FF9 and before the doesn't-count Final Fantasy Online (11). Good systems, good world.

Hate to vote against FFX, but Myst is pretty special too…very few games would earn my vote over FFX but this is one of them.

Myst is a much-maligned game. Compared to undeservedly-beloved series like the King's Quest games (been wanting to say that for awhile) the puzzles make sense, they are rational and logical and the game is fair. A lot of people who've never played it like to lump it in with later sterile, poorly-acted games with nonsensical puzzles that "looked really pretty with FMV scenes on CD-ROM" but but while it is pretty and was on CD-ROM, it was better than the games that tried to ape it.

I agree on the Myst comments. It’s a tough but fair game. It may not seem fair but it is. That’s part of what makes it so stunning.

I always wonder if anyone ever accidentally beat it within minutes of starting it for the first time. That would be very perplexing to that poor gamer lol

Although I was never particularly gripped by Myst (probably too young when it came out), I recently read an article from 2019 that reminded me that Cyan Worlds is still around (and largely through renting excess office space from an earlier expansion). Seems pretty rare for an original developer to still be around to repurchase the rights to their old stuff. Usually we have to settle for buying old games from whoever holds the rights after 5 acquisitions/bankruptcies, if anybody bothers to put them someplace at all.

I grew up only around 20 minutes from where they're headquartered. It's impressive that real estate in eastern Washington is the reason they're still around. Beautiful area, but not exactly booming.

I don't have any problem with Myst, and I think it deserves to advance. My vote isn't a vote against Myst, but very much a vote for FFX. Hopefully Myst manages to knock a few contenders down in the lower bracket.
