Top 512 — Week 5 — Poll 14

Welcome to the #BGE2020 Elimination Round of 512!

Each game is seeded based on its performance in the two opening rounds of pools. Every game in the Upper Bracket has defeated multiple other games in 1-on-1 polls to get to this point. These are still the best of the best.

Polls are updated weekly, typically on Sunday or Monday. Check back throughout the week to make sure you don't miss a vote!

HOW TO VOTE

This is easy. You only get one vote per poll. The game with the most votes wins. In the event of a tie, the higher seed advances, so don't get complacent!

Nintendo Land is a tech demo. The Hitchhiker's Guide is a seminal text adventure. The ability to choose to do stuff while reading a book makes it one of those interesting ancient artefacts of the books-to-video-games medium transition.

While Nintendo Land is to some degree a tech demo... it's also still one of the best 5-player casual games around, and I break it out more often for groups of 3-5 people than any other game (on the rare occasion I'm being social). It has cooperative modes, fun asymmetrical multiplayer, and several of the games have a fair amount of depth despite being simple to learn. The only multiplayer game that's gotten close to its playtime on the Wii U is Game & Wario for the pictionary mode (which is really just a good version of pictionary with goofy atmosphere and some offbeat words).

I'm not sure I'd vote for it here, but I want to defend one of the Wii U's better multiplayer games. Nintendo Land should've been a tech demo for something more comprehensive, but Nintendo was really the only one holding that banner on the Wii U.

Haha! I'll confess even after defending Nintendo Land that I'm confused how it got in the top 512, much less originally seeded 142. I do like it, but it's a very situational game and it's not even a top 5 Wii U game (though Xenoblade X is the only game I'd put there that hasn't been remade since).

Although I very much enjoyed the Hitchhiker's Guide book, I never played the text adventure which is why I'm abstaining here.

It's better Zork. You have about an hour (while I eat, before I get back to tally the brackets) to prevent this travesty from occurring.
