And Clay, did you beat Classic and All-Star will all characters? That's what I consider to be acceptable for "beating the game"
Nope, and I disagree with your definition and don't intend to change mine!
This has always been roughly what I define "beaten" as for fighting games. It just means they are particularly easy to beat. Nothing wrong with that.
Besides, by my definition, you still have to unlock all the characters and beat All-star, which takes a number of hours and may be an even more difficult goalpost than I would otherwise still accept. Generally, any in-game action (ie: not via a menu) that gets you to the credits is usually what I consider "beating" a game. Beating classic with a single character does this in Smash!
I do, mind you,
intend to beat both single player modes with all characters, but I think that's verging much more on completionism than just beating the game.
And just for reference... do you think you have to beat all the stages in Super Mario 3D World with every character including
Rosalina
to have "beaten" the game? Or perhaps should one have to beat Streets of Rage 2 with every character to have beaten said game? To beat Mario Kart, should I finish every Grand Prix with every racer? I don't think so. Just some examples.
No I understand your point, and I totally respect having different opinions on what is considered beating a game, that`s just always how I`ve viewed Smash Bros.
Unlike Mario 3D World and Mario Kart for example, playing the game with one character doesn`t really affect the outcome, while playing Classic with a different character in Smash earns you a different trophy at the end. That`s why I`ve always considered getting all of those `base`trophies as beating the game. Also the fact that it seemed too easy for me to say I`ve beaten the game after only using one character
But like you said, you can just view it as fighting games being really short, and seeing the credits is a perfectly viable way of considering the game beat!
Beat:
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (3DS)
Mario and Luigi Dream Team (3DS)
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Wii U)
Mario and Donkey Kong Mini's on the Move (3DS)
Pokemon X (3DS)
Bravely Default (3DS)
Kirby: Triple Deluxe (3DS)
Shovel Knight (3DS) x3
SteamWorld Dig (3DS) x2
Liberation Maiden (3DS)
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (Wii U/3DS)
Siesta Fiesta (3DS)
Attack of the Friday Monsters (3DS)
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (3DS)
Animal Crossing New Leaf (3DS)
Complete:
SteamWorld Dig (3DS)
Ittle Dew (Wii U)
Shovel Knight (3DS)
Super Mario 3D World (Wii U)
Another example of reaching a personal goal; I consider Animal Crossing beat now that I`ve paid off my entire house loan
Finally I can start saving up bells without spending half a million on a house loan! Haven`t played this game in months, I really should`ve gathered up 3 million bells and threw it in the bank and watched the interest grow while I wasn`t playing
