Welcome to the #BGE2020 Elimination Round of 512!
Each game is seeded based on its performance in the two opening rounds of pools. Every game in the Upper Bracket has defeated multiple other games in 1-on-1 polls to get to this point. These are still the best of the best.
Polls are updated weekly, typically on Sunday or Monday. Check back throughout the week to make sure you don't miss a vote!
HOW TO VOTE
This is easy. You only get one vote per poll. The game with the most votes wins. In the event of a tie, the higher seed advances, so don't get complacent!

Can't vote for Shadowrun as I've never played it. The setting is great, but I probably wouldn't like the game style.
On the other hand I do know Quake, it's a game I played a lot and did enjoy it .. so that makes voting for it easier.

I'll admit Shadowrun was kind of an underdog-vote for me - it's kind of a CRPG-style game brought to consoles before that was a common thing. Not that there was a PC version or anything, but it had a dialogue system with preset prompts you would unlock over time (kind of like Ultima IV on PC, except you didn't have to track all the stuff you learned manually), a fairly large set of areas to explore, and a point-based leveling system. I don't feel like it was really all that influential but it's one of the better SNES RPGs.
It had some issues (I wish the arena section was either easier, or you could come back to it and complete it later in the game - as-is it can be very grindy if you want to complete it) but it's a fun game with some interesting mysteries early on.
The Genesis version feels a little more "open" and truer to the source content, and gameplay wise I'd give a slight edge to it because the Matrix stuff is a lot more fun there, character creation is more flexible, the story feels like it opens up earlier and the combat is a little less twitchy though neither is really an action game.

Damn, this is a tricky one. I love Shadowrun—even more than the Genesis game, unlike Niahak apparently. But Quake is undoubtedly important and influential. I'm going to mull this one over for a while.

Re: Top 512 — Week 8 — Poll 30
These are both really good games - and I also prefer the SNES Shadowrun to the Genesis version, as, though the Genesis version is truer to the rules of the game, I have always felt the atmosphere of the SNES version is grittier and more on point with the atmosphere of the P&P version. Quake on the other hand is the FPS that took things to the next step beyond Doom, and it's incredibly fun and largely responsible for starting the online FPS multiplayer craze. So, this comes down to two things - one, I like Shadowrun a little more than Quake and two, Quake II is arguably the best of that series.

Yeah, I think I have to give the tip to Shadowrun here solely because Quake II is so much better than the original.liu yuante wrote: ↑21 Apr 2023 22:16 So, this comes down to two things - one, I like Shadowrun a little more than Quake and two, Quake II is arguably the best of that series.
Unfortunately... Quake II also already dropped in this round vs. Phantasy Star (you and I both voted for Quake II in that one). So they'll both be hanging in the lower bracket next round from the looks of things.
Hmm... maybe I could get behind Quake I here on that basis...

That would certainly be a defensible stance to take.Kong Wen wrote: ↑21 Apr 2023 22:59Yeah, I think I have to give the tip to Shadowrun here solely because Quake II is so much better than the original.liu yuante wrote: ↑21 Apr 2023 22:16 So, this comes down to two things - one, I like Shadowrun a little more than Quake and two, Quake II is arguably the best of that series.
