Bottom 768 — Week 10 — Poll 8

Post by This Old Neon »

Welcome to the #BGE2020 Elimination Round Lower Bracket!

Each game in the lower bracket is still seeded based on its performance in the two opening rounds of pools! Every game in the lower bracket has already been defeated by another game in a 1-on-1 poll to get to this point. This is their chance to claw their way back into the main event... but the stakes are high. The games that lose in these polls are out of the tournament for good! The games that survive will face the next crop of upper bracket losers in the next round.

Polls are updated weekly, typically on Saturday... or Sunday or Monday. Check back throughout the week to make sure you don't miss a vote!

HOW TO VOTE

This is easy. You only get one vote per poll. The game with the most votes wins. In the event of a tie, the higher seed advances, so don't get complacent!

Is there another version of Doom still alive elsewhere? Or what does the 25-year anniversary edition offer over the first (or Doom II)?

While I don't think Earthbound is for everyone, it's still a fascinating game with some fun humor and riffs well on archaic RPGs (in part by being archaic itself, especially if you aren't aware of the L-button shortcut).

OG PC Doom is still alive. I don't know enough about it to know what the differences are. One of the crazy things about Doom that makes it worthy of every vote it gets here is that it's still an ongoing alive creature, even getting support and new levels from the original devs in the 2020s.

From what I can tell, the 25th anniversary versions are a Doom engine port in a Unity shell that makes them easily portable to various modern platforms, so maybe more of a technical update. Content-wise, you could probably include Romero's SIGIL update as part of this, which is basically an official 5th chapter of the main story.
