Official Pokémon Discussion Thread

Post by The Shoemaker »

Talk about all things Pokemanz!

Slurmee originally said in the other thread: "What exactly does a Mega Evolution do? Apart from look pretty? Also is there a limit to how many times you can mega evolve the pokemon? I am aware you need some Mega Evolution item that you hold then the pokemon must also hold an item?"

You can Mega Evolve as many times as you want, all you need is a mega stone, which is specific to each Pokemon that can Mega Evolve. You can only Mega Evolve in battle, so it's a temporary thing, and only one Pokemon can Mega Evolve per battle. Essentially elvoving buffs up your Pokemon for the battle giving them different skills and attributes. They also look cool.

In total, Mega Evolution does the following things:

It can change your pokemon's ability.
It buffs a couple of your pokemon's stats.
It can change your pokemon's type.
It changes your pokemon's appearance.
You got BOOST power!

I kind of figured someone would change the title from Pokemanz to Pokemon

FYI for anyone with the demo you gotta go those annoying little adventures 10 times to get all the awards.

I'm all for jocular slang, but it can make it harder to search for threads if it's in the title. :)

Mega Evolution, in theory, gives the player a single more powerful than normal pokemon to field on their team.

In reality, some of them (Mawile, Kangaskhan) does get really good and is a pure improvment, while for others (Alakazham, Mewtwo, etc), it's simply another way to play said Pokemon, since the lack of an item slot might hurt said pokemon more than its worth, depending on your team.

Then, there's the rare Mega Pokemon that is arguably worse than its normal form, like Garchomp.

I tried out the demo, it was very demo like. I kind of wish they gave us the first couple hours of the game rather than snippets of features, but a demo's a demo

Best thing about it was realizing that you have free movement now, no more 8 way directions!

Pokémon Omega Ruby & Pokémon Alpha Sapphire reportedly have surpassed 3 millon copies already, according to Famitsu. The games are not even in Europe yet, so a pretty good start here!

3 mil hey? I guess that's NA and Japan. Pretty decent sales I'd say!

I picked up Ruby, haven't played it too much yet because I'm trying to finish other games first. I love the DexNav though; searching for Pokemon is great and being able to see when you've "caught em all" in an area is a welcomed feature. I also like that battles have been made a little faster.
