TOP 128 — Week 5 — Poll 4

Post by This Old Neon »

Welcome to the #BGE2020 Elimination Round of 128!

Each game is seeded based on its performance in the two opening rounds of pools. Every game in the Upper Bracket has defeated multiple other games in 1-on-1 polls to get to this point. These are still the best of the best.

Polls are updated weekly, typically on Monday. Check back throughout the week to make sure you don't miss a vote!

HOW TO VOTE

This is easy. You only get one vote per poll. The game with the most votes wins. In the event of a tie, the higher seed advances, so don't get complacent!

Zug zug!
I never thought I would feel this way, but now I know. Now I know. I never thought I would see things as I see them now, but now I know. I never thought I would hurt so bad, but now I know. Now I know.

This is actually a rough match-up for this stage of the context. SM64 contributed immensely to the evolution of modern 3D platformers as we know them, and Warcraft 2 contributed immensely to the evolution of modern RTS as we know them. Warcraft 2 had a great map/scenario editor and remarkably good online play for its day, so I choose it.

I'm not a fan of SM64, but it's hard to deny its influence. Warcraft II was addicting. Got hooked on it in my teenage years. Warcraft gets the nod. Dabu!

Most of the online play for Warcraft 2 through third-party software, though (Kali). While it was better than many games, it wasn't quite as accessible (or free, IIRC Kali had time limits) as Battle.net (not that free-online games were really a thing beyond MUDs at the time).

I voted for SM64 here, as I felt either Starcraft (asymmetric playstyles, much more map-making flexibility) or the original Warcraft (campaign, different factions) were more groundbreaking, but the scenario editing was definitely pretty good for its time.
