TOP 64 — Week 2 — Poll 6

Post by This Old Neon »

Welcome to the #BGE2020 Elimination Round of 64!

Each game is seeded based on its performance in the two opening rounds of pools. Every game in the Upper Bracket has defeated multiple other games in 1-on-1 polls to get to this point. These are still the best of the best.

Polls are updated weekly, typically on Monday. Check back throughout the week to make sure you don't miss a vote!

HOW TO VOTE

This is easy. You only get one vote per poll. The game with the most votes wins. In the event of a tie, the higher seed advances, so don't get complacent!

AoS is my all-time favourite CV and one of my favourites in the Metroidvania genre. I prefer it to SotN too. Recently replayed it on the Advance collection and loved every moment.

Dragon Warrior IV might not be absolutely peak Dragon Quest, but it's a great adventure that starts out simple. Love the final chapter bringing everything together.
While I think the DS version is probably better overall, I have a soft spot for the original's translation - modern DQ translations frequently give me headaches with all the various accents and DQ4 DS is the toughest. The accents add character, but decrease legibility (this was a major barrier for my daughter's playthrough of DQ Builders 2, though on the flip side that made the desert chapter raise fewer questions...) and thankfully it seemed to have been toned down in DQXI.

I'm not sure DW4 is the first RPG that had multiple viewpoints / chapters with different characters, but it's the best implementation of it I played until Suikoden 3.

I see DW4 as more revolutionary, while Aria of Sorrow is evolutionary. AOS didn't hook me the same way as SOTN.

Oh no, this is really rough.

On one hand, Aria of Sorrow is my favourite Castlevania game, and one of my favourites in the whole Metcastlevania genre. I prefer it to SotN too, by a healthy margin.

But on the other hand, Dragon Warrior IV is one of my faves in that whole series too, and it's a series I tend to prefer (on average, overall) to Castlevania. IV is just so charming, and like Niahak said, I thought the chapter plotting with the final chapter bringing everything together was brilliant.

I might have to make a pros and cons chart lmao. I'll be back to vote on this later.
