2025-01-31 - Wilmot's Warehouse (PS4) - Not exactly a "cozy" game, but a relaxing game about organizing things and then remembering where they are. The main skill this tests or develops is some creativity in how you interpret abstract symbols in your brain. The game does seem to go on a little long for what it is, with my first clear taking me 11 hours. I still have about 13-14 RNG-based trophies to get and I don't know how many more plays through the game that will take me.

2025-01-11 - Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon (PS5) - Excellent little classicvania clone. The only thing missing from the NES Castlevania legacy is good memorable music. It felt a bit easier as well. Not sure if that's because I played through the game like eight times back to back... but solving the bosses was really the only challenge. And that culminated with a good, fair boss rush mode that took the most effort of all the trophies. Good time.

Beaten:
01/13 - Late Shift (PS5)
01/21 - Rocket League (PS4)
01/22 - Five Dates (PS5)
01/24 - StreetPass Mii Plaza: Puzzle Swap (3DS)
01/25 - F-Zero AX (Arcade)
01/25 - StreetPass Mii Plaza: Market Crashers (3DS)
02/02 - Street Fighter: The Movie (Saturn)

Knocked out the story mode of the bad Street Fighter: The Movie. This was one of the old games I picked up at MAGFest. I didn't expect it to be very good, but I think it was even worse than my already-low expectations. 😅

Nevertheless, it's a cleared game. :)

Completed:
01/24 - StreetPass Mii Plaza: Puzzle Swap (3DS)

Congrats on completing Puzzle Swap! Always wanted to, and honestly probably only had a few puzzles to go! I used to bring my 3DS everywhere to get those peices.

I played a ton of the original streetpass games and the first set of DLC ones. I'm realizing I never played the subsequent DLC games? I remember a zombie and slot car one, but never played a market crashers! Crazy!

Finished:
Jan 11. Prince of Persia The Lost Crown (Switch)
Jan 13. Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster (Switch)
Jan 14. Princess Peach Showtime! (Switch)
Jan 19. Pokemon Sword (Switch)
Jan 29. SteamWorld Heist II (Switch)
Feb 02. Final Fantasy III Pixel Remaster (Switch)

I dabbled in FF II, and while I liked the initial story, I heard enough bad things about the combat/leveling system that I decided to skip it. FF III didn't take long and it was fun! Story was more involved, and the early job system was interesting, but felt like it would he grindy to really take advantage of. It's hilarious how many airships you get in this game lol.

Feb. 09 Final Fantasy IV Pixel Remaster (Switch)

From the outset, FF IV was such a clear jump in quality compared to the previous entries. Story was engaging, music was awesome, and I appreciate the gameplay change up with the ATB system. Awesome game. Must have felt like quite the jump in the West to go from FF I to FF II which was actually FF IV.

Awesome, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I'm one of the kids who went right from FF1 to FF4 and it was such a formative story/experience for child Kong brain. Loved it so much. All the story beats were like big cultural moments for me lol, and the music is patterned onto my soul.

Super cool! I can totally see why that would stick with you.

Astro Bot.. now this is a video game! Fantastic experience front to back, easily the best game Sony has ever made (imo). Right up there with the best Mario experiences. Got all the bots, missing a few gatcha prizes as I ran out of money.. may finish those off eventually as they add more levels.

Feb 16. Wario Land 4 (GBA NSO)

Never got around to playing Wario Land 4 despite owning it via the 3DS ambassador program. The only other Wario Land I've played was 3, also on NSO. That game I found charming, but a bit confusing trying to figure out what I actually needed to do. The "power ups" were also a bit frustrating in how long they lasted.

4 was fun. Nice charming GBA visuals. Levels feel like a maze that always somehow comes together in the end. I like the timer mechanic of having to frantically run back to the start of the level. I played Pizza Tower last year and it's now obvious in its inspiration.

Never been crazy about the Ratchet games, gave this one a try a year ago and fell off after an hour or so. Gave it another shot and enjoyed it quite a bit. Once you get past the opening the game opens up more and gives you more abilities and agency. Fun little story and an absolute spectacle of particle effects at all times.
