Definitely a good one. I was considering nominating it myself. Even with its slippery physics the tracks are still great and battle mode is to die for.WeiWenDi wrote:Nominating:

Lots of ships, weapons, events to experiment with. Fantastic combat and music.
But what is absolutly perfect is the games length.
Long enough to grow attached to your ship and crew as you watch them grow, yet short enough that you can finish it in a single session without being too dissapointed when the final boss blows you to bits.
Etrian Odyssey 4: Legends of the Titan
I've been playing a lot of dungeon crawlers.
I've been playing a lot of dungeon crawlers on portable systems.
And this is it's current peak.
The balancing is nearly perfect, never forcing excessive grinding onto the player. All classes a useful and the game offers lots of customization options, unlocking more as you go on.
The level design is near perfect with each new area having it's unique twists, and while it's prequels started to get repetetive and exhausting after a while, EO4 just keeps getting better and better.
The best game currently available on the 3DS

Previously nominated:
Berzerk! (Atari 2600)
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (NES)
Phantasy Star IV (Genesis)
Shining Force (Genesis)
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (PS2)
Fatal Frame (PS2)
Dead Space 3 (PS3)
Red Dead Redemption (PS3)
Okay, a couple more PS2 games that are very near and dear to my heart:
Shinobi - This game is absolutely the finest ninja video game I have ever played and I mean that. It's not just a little bit better than the best of the others - it blows them out of the water. I hate that I never got to play its sequel, which I bought for PS2 but then sold it when I liquidated my PS2 collection. If it ever comes out on PSN, I'll pounce on it. I really need to go ahead and buy Shinobi again so that I have ready access to it. Amazing. Simply amazing.
Finally, I'm proud to nominate the most emotionally affecting game I've ever played (at least for me and it's admittedly probably more for personal reasons than for actual content and story execution) - Shadowhearts Covenant. There's a couple of scenes in particular that continue to replay in my mind in their own haunting and melancholy way. Overall, even though the game saddens me terribly, I love it and was happy to play it thoroughly and even complete it. I hope it comes out on PSN someday so I can do it again.

I never thought I would feel this way, but now I know. Now I know. I never thought I would see things as I see them now, but now I know. I never thought I would hurt so bad, but now I know. Now I know.

Limiting myself to 5 entries because I could go on all day. And they're all of different genres, even better.
Path of Exile
Chrono Trigger (SNES)
Sleeping Dogs
Crimzon Clover: World Ignition
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup
Then again if played right PoE is pretty similar to DCSS... Meh, details.

Too many important games to nominate. I should stop, but I won't.
Shovel Knight: Probably the best take on the 8-bit nostalgia I've ever played. And it's a game with future free DLC too. That'll be the icing.
Yoshi!: The NES/GB puzzle game. Went by "Mario and Yoshi" in Japan. If it matters, I'm specifically thinking of the NES version. Such fond memories of playing that, and I really haven't seen anything close to it.
Wario's Woods: Never played the SNES version, but I love the NES one. I spent so many hours playing it on the GCN Animal Crossing.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf: Speaking of which, gotta nominate this timesucker. Improved on the original in every way. (I haven't played any others beyond the original, so I can't count them.)
Tetris: While I'm on a bit of a puzzle kick, gotta nominate the original. I'm specifically referring to the NES version, if it matters at all.

I've really heard nothing but good things about this, but I generally hate doujin shooters. Hopefully it gets a port, as my mac won't run it.White Rider wrote: Crimzon Clover: World Ignition

I'm replacing X: Beyond the Frontier with The Magic of Scheherazade, a game which I can't believe I forgot about before.

Your task is clear. Head into the lowest level of the dungeon, grab the Amulet of Yendor and make it out alive again.
This is a game of survival, of risk-management and of countless slapstick deaths... a lot of deaths.... oh god! Why are there so many deaths?
A classical Rogue-like with tons of possibilities (to die).
While I never managed to beat the game even once, I never stopped trying.
Ogre Battle - March of the Black Queen
Now once upon a time - an old man told me a fable
When the piper is gone - and the soup is cold on your table
And if the black crow flies to find a new destination - that is the sign
Come tonight
Come to the ogre sight
Come to the ogre-battle-fight
League of Legends
Yes, I am going to do it. I am going to nominate a MOBA and you can't do anything about it
The game in fact is very good. It doesn't matter that it (mostly) takes place on just one map, since the fun and variety comes from the group dynamic, rather than the location. Tons of champions with diverse abilites and play styles.
Granted, starting out to play can feel like a baptism in salt and vinegar, however can you blame the game for it's players? Especially since quite some effort has been made to weed out toxic elements (the success is noticable).
I kinda have to nominate it, since I've playing this for almost ~4 years on a more or less regular basis and Riot has added a staggering amount of refinements/improvements during this time. Worth!
