I watched WALL-E with Mrs. Kong last night. I had seen it before, but she had somehow avoided it for this long. I had almost forgotten just what an overt agenda it had, but that's a big part of what makes it such a great movie. I also love how they manage to establish character through the first 30 minutes or so without any dialogue.

This one deserves a re-watch from me. I've really only seen it once I think, without my full attention.

The Nightmare Before Christmas
One of my childhood favourites I happened to rewatch recently. I must have watched it 20 times as a kid, but haven't seen it for at least 10 years. I watched it on Netflix, so it was nice seeing what the movie looks like in HD. As a kid I never realized it was stop motion with clay/puppet models, really neat. All the songs in the movie are really good, and I love that the movie has such a brisk pace, only an hour and 16 minutes. A real classic.

Hotel Transilvania
Another monster themed animated movie. Not nearly as morbid as Nightmare Before Christmas, but that's Tim Burton so you can't really compare. I've seen this one a couple times with my niece, but I think it's still a very solid animated movie, and a very solid Adam Sandler movie at that. The final song kind of sours the ending of the movie for me, but I'll accept that it was thrown in for the kids. Still, ending your movie with a song in a movie without any songs is kind of a cheap ending if you ask me. I'm looking forward to the sequel though.

I just watched Mad Max: Fury Road with my brother. I've got to say, while the fights on the vehicles were fun, it just felt like they took one piece out of Road Warrior, tweaked the narrative, and threw it out there for the entire film. I... was underwhelmed.

I have somehow managed to miss this one so far, but I'm tempted to "acquire" it this weekend to see what all the fuss was about. I'm glad to hear your other side of the coin to hopefully ground my expectations.

It was not a horrible movie, in as far as action goes. It's Mad Max, so no super-deep plot. It is a fun movie. It does the setting right, and there are a few memorable scenes. At times, however, it felt less Mad Max and more... Furiosa. I dunno how to explain the feeling other than underwhelming, simply for the fact that I felt like I was watching a reshoot of Road Warrior for the longest time.

Just watched Monsters University for the second time. (First time was in theaters.) It has lots of charm, but somehow doesn't live up to the first movie. I still enjoyed it very much, and was able to spot certain allusions to the first movie, which takes place in the future.

This movie is a prequel to the absolute gem, Monsters INC.

Yeah it couldn't top the first one, but to their credit I think they knew they couldn't top it, so they made a story that was meant to be fun and expand the movie universe rather than directly compete with the first.

Watched Source Code with the missus last night. It absolutely baffled her but I really enjoyed it.

I went to see The Martian last night. It was good. Basically had a Cast Awayfeel, but with some space stuff.

I watched Wolf Children on sunday.
Pretty good family friendly anime movie about a young single mother trying to raise 2 wolf kids on her own while trying to keep the secret safe.

A flight of fancy on a wind swept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
