Re: Hockey Thread! (NHL etc.)

Thanks Vic!

I'm going to go brew up some tea, then I'm going to randomize the draft order using the sequence generator at random.org and the following values assigned by alphabetical order:

1. IMessYouUp
2. kitroplious
3. Kong Wen
4. Kreegs
5. Slurmee
6. VictorViper

Whatever order the sequence spits out will be the draft order. I'll then share the spreadsheet and start filling it in, so anyone who's around and cares can watch the sheet being completed in real time. :)

This'll happen in about 5 minutes.

The draft order is official:

Claytone will draft last year's highest-scoring Predators after everyone else's picks are finished.

Here is the link to view the document. I'll begin filling in the picks in about 5-10 minutes, and if you have the sheet open you'll be able to see it happening in real-time.

Observations:
  • The way the draft went, most of my eggs ended up in the same basket.
  • Vic drafted a defenceman-heavy team.
  • Everyone forgot about Jonathan Drouin.
  • Kreegs somehow managed to draft the top 3 players in the league so far...
After you've had a chance to have a look at your team and get acquainted with them, feel free to give me your team name and I'll put it in the doc. :)

I didn't have Girardi in my 17 man roster for obvious reasons! ;)

I have to correct myself and mention that I DID include a Maple Leafs player (67th on my list), but it was a former Canuck.

Google Drive is down right now, so you may not be able to view the sheet. Annoying. At least I got it all filled out before it went down. :)

My team.

Round - Draft Pick - Player Name - My rank - Notes

1st Round (3) - Jamie Benn - 2nd - Sweet no issue here Benn got the most points last season so I think he'll do great again this season.
2nd Round (10) - Tyler Seguin - 3rd - I think I may have ranked him a little high but still pretty excited to get him 10th. Having 2 Dallas studs though really relies on them having a good season for me to do well.
3rd Round (15) - Taylor Hall - 8th - You guys all messed up here. I thought for sure I ranked him too low. Edmonton is better this year with the free agents and mcjesus. This will help Hall and he's a healthy point per game player on a shit Edmonton team. If he stays healthy he could finish 90+ points.
4th Round (22) - Henrik Sedin - 15th - He did good last season hopefully he can again. Vancouvers a bit of an unknown this year so we'll see.
5th Round (27) - Jiri Hudler - 18th - Probably over ranked this guy but he had a great season last year. Huge risk high reward type of player.
6th Round (34) - Anze Kopitar - 19th - Umm really 6th round Kopitar okay awesome. The guys a stud and underrated across the league. Point wise he didn't do great but as a 6th rounder I have no issue at all with this.
7th Round (39) - Jordan Eberle - 24th - I got him again. Like with hall I think he's in for an improvement due to better players and coaches around him. I think I overrated him a bit though.
8th Round (46) - Marian Hossa - 34th - He's getting older now he might slow down a bit but he plays on a line with Toews so anything could happen.
9th Round (51) - Kyle Turris - 35th - Ottawas in a rebuilding stage and Turris is their number one centre so he's probably out their the most of the forwards and had Bobby Ryan as a winger. I think he's a sure 50+ points if not much more.
10th Round (58) - Jarome Iginla - 40th - Wow I got him 10th. He's the one Avs player I don't want to scream at for being stupid or playing horribly. His power play goal was awesome yesterday. Really happy with a 10th spot here.

---

11th Round (63) - Jeff Carter - 41st - I know very little about this player. LA Kings player right? To be honest my list was a copy paste top 100 scorers with a handful of players added and removed. Unsure how to feel but he's not on the main roster so it's fine.
12th Round (70) - Kyle Okposo - 42nd - Same as Hossa. This guy has Tavares as his centre and the Islanders are contenders this year for sure. Really happy with this pick.
13th Round (75) - Sean Monahan - 46th - Same as Carter. This guys still a kid though so breakout season or bust is quiet possible.
14th Round (82) - Ryan O'Reilly - 52nd - New team new players who knows. Should do well nonetheless. I don't see him being in my top 10 at the end of the season.
15th Round (87) - Dennis Wideman - 64th - Eww why is he on my list Gio is probably going to steal all his ice time. This is a huge error in my list I'd probably prefer players that aren't even drafted over Wideman.
16th Round (94) - Brandon Dubinsky - 69th - He's a good player on an average team he'll probably just be average all season.
17th Round (99) - Mikko Rantanen - I told Kong to draft Rantanen 17th so I ranked him 102nd but I probably rank him better than a lot on my list - 10th overall pick in the draft. Probably the most NHL ready draft player having played 100+ games in Europe in the big leagues. He's most likely going to sit on my bench all season but he might do something awesome if Roy gives him the chance.

Overall I'm moderately happy with my team. The top 10 is great my 7 man bench might not stack up if I get injuries though.

Dallas/Edmonton/Calgary/Kings/Avalanche make up for 11/17 of my team. I'm a little worried about that.

No Minnesota players wasn't planned but I think I underrated a lot of them.

Teams look a lot more even this year too.

90% of my starters are western conference players.

I'll think of a name soon

I am super jazzed about my team! A few familiar faces from last year! On pace for 1230 points this year...hahahahahaha!

I give KW permission to think of a sweet name for me like last year.

I'm considering Shattenkirk the Bed.

Surprised no one took Granlund. He might get some serious points on the Parise line.

A couple people had him on their lists, just low enough that he didn't make an appearance.
