Seriously guys... we can't let Okami die in this round... It's like, the best 3D Zelda out there.
I voted for The Legend of Zelda because it is one of those early games that most perfectly replicated the feeling of adventure and exploring: going out into the unknown world and discovering its secrets. This kind of sense of wonder defined my childhood and the game really resonated with me.
I also voted for Phantasy Star. Ground-breaking RPG with tons of character. It's amazing how far ahead of its time this was.
I could have voted for Metroid, but I figured it would be fine on its own, and I've preferred subsequent entries (the first game had some flaws that don't really rub me the wrong way, but enough for me to shrug at it when it's surrounded by competition like this). Okami is a great 3D Zelda game (probably the best one, as Shoe said), but it's not in Phantasy Star's league.
