That's a legitimate complaint about the MGS series as a whole and, indeed, why I no longer play them. It's silly but not in a humorous way and the writing is atrocious. MGS2, though, worked just due to environment and gameplay. I had so much fun with that game I could tolerate its egregious flaws.
