That’s the way it works when it’s not working. That’s the way it hurts before it starts hurting.

I always wanted to play this goofy romp, and now I finally have. Payed a couple bucks for it during the sale, and I'm pleased with what I got. It only took me about a half-hour to beat, but I got a couple laughs and beat the most QTE riddled game I'll ever play.

Re: 2014 Game Clear Thread
Beat:
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask
Mario and Luigi Dream Team
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Mario and Donkey Kong Mini's on the Move (3DS)
Complete:
SteamWorld Dig (3DS)
Ittle Dew (Wii U)
Ittle Dew was a great little indie game, it's a good Zelda-like experience but it mainly focuses on block puzzles. It has a lot of short cuts built in for speed running and a lot of forth wall breaking charm. The puzzles near the end get to be quite creative, especially in the "master cave". For $10 I'd give it a solid 4/5.

That's good to hear! I was worried the puzzles would be boring/uncreative. I picked it up for $0.55 last summer but I haven't taken it for a spin yet. About how long would you say it is?The Shoemaker wrote:Ittle Dew was a great little indie game, it's a good Zelda-like experience but it mainly focuses on block puzzles. Re: 2014 Game Clear Thread
No no, the puzzles get rather complicated, I was pretty impressed. It took me about 6 hours to beat it normally with most things collected, after that I did the optional dungeon and had to use a guide to finish :p Like I said it's an excellent game to speed run, I've heard of people beating it in around 20 minutes!Kong Wen wrote:That's good to hear! Golden indeed! Given its premise and genre, I was certainly predisposed to disliking this game. I'm very glad I bit the bullet nevertheless. It has soundly joined the ranks of my very favorite games. The game is founded on solid gameplay (although it's perhaps a bit easy) creatively and riskily mixed with visual novel/relationship building aspects, and it's even got half-decent rhetoric from time to time. I was drawn back to this game time and time again despite my usual reluctance to pour hours and hours into long games. It's hard to extract exactly what was so intriguing about this game, but I suppose humans are wont to learn more about characters and to learn more about murder mysteries, so those elements perhaps had some innate draw. This is not to mention the dungeon crawling, which I felt involved a fun combat system that rewarded appropriate levels of time spent fusing personas without requiring a great deal of grinding. The idea that people derive utility from something whose name already bears connotations of unpleasant monotony blows me away, so I'm glad that wasn't a big component of this game (played on normal difficulty, anyway). This is all not to mention the soundtrack, which is almost entirely great, and only adequate at worst.
Indeed, I haven't been this impressed with a game since I beat MGS3 in June of 2012. Both come highly recommended, and we are lucky that the fifth installments of both series await us in 2015!
