Using your definition, I wouldn't even consider high-tech juggernauts like the PS360 retro consoles in and of themselves, just that they had retro features or curated retro collections. The NES and SNES Classics are the best examples we have of first-party retro consoles, and they're barely consoles in that their libraries are on board and not expandable.
I completely agree, which is why I had to qualify it with the options available to us in the vote. In and of themselves, none of those consoles are or will be retro.

For me GameCube and ps2 era is borderline, but I would classify as retro or classic. The visual style isn't too far off, but it's more the game design from that era that makes me see it as retro/classic.

God of War and Breath of the Wild are better than 99% of PS2 games, 99.9% of GCN games, and 99.99% of XB games, and 99.999% of DC games. :)

Nah, for him to be really contrarian (and I think you all know that I'm an expert in this) would require the PC to be an option in the poll.

At any rate, I simply can't think of a console that's has mostly 3D games and had its heyday when I was practically in college as a retro console. I'm surprised that I'm currently alone on that.

Which DC game is considered better than GoW 2018 and BOTW?

Also for every fantastic current gen game there’s 5000 dumpster fire games these days. Especially in this age of loot boxes and micro transactions. While the ratio of fantastic games in Gen 6 was a lot better.

Vic fumes as retro continues to be misused.

Looks like he went pedantic more than contrarian.

Anyway, to answer the spirit of the poll, I voted for the obviously correct answer: N64/PS1/Saturn.

I went semantic. And it's of use here. Retro has a very specific definition and use. Now, don't get me wrong, I hope I've been a welcome participant here with my comments rather than a nuisance, because of course the spirit of the thread is clear enough.

But we're debating the wrong term here. This is a case for the vintage/classic/antique debate.

Never seen the term antique used to describe consoles. Vintage also is a way older term while I guess a Classic makes sense however I do still believe Retro is the correct term in the gaming community.
