Been sitting on this one for a few months. Started playing again and finished in a couple days. Overall, it's a bit of a slog. It gets better as the game progresses and you get better at telling trico what to do. Even then, most of the game is spent struggling with the controls and waiting for trico to slowly go to where you need it to go.
The story isn't very involved, but it's a nice narrative. It works as a video game because a lot of it is you building a relationship with trico through your actions.
First half of the game I'd give a 6/10, second half I'd say 7/10.
