Splatoon 3 DLC was pretty good. Fun idea to take those mechanics and apply it to a rogue-like setting. It doesn't have as much variety as something like Hades does, but good fun. I was addicted to it playing all weekend.

SMRPG was great fun, never played more than an hour of the original. You could tell this remake had a lot of heart and was very thoughtful in preserving the style of the original. It's simpler than other Mario RPG's, but the pacing and writing holds it together.

Superstar Saga was one of my favorite games as a kid and I haven't replayed it since I last had a Game Boy Advance probably. Took me a while to figure out if I wanted to replay the original or try the 3DS remake - I figured may as well go with the new one.
The core game itself holds up well. Nice breezy 14 hour RPG, great pacing always moving on to the next thing. The combat and systems are a bit simple in this first entry, but a bit more depth than Mario RPG before it. May be because I played the game before, but Mario RPG got more laughs out of me than this one.
As for the quality of the remake - it's a pretty good way to play the game. The controls are a little cumbersome now if you just use buttons to cycle through your abilities, but if you use the touch screen it's quicker. Sprite work is nice, but a bit blurry on the 3DS. I'm 50/50 on the remixed music. It's all good quality, but some songs take on a different sort of vibe now compared to the crunchy bops of the GBA. But a lot of songs I prefer over the originals.
At times I thought maybe I would have preferred to have just played the GBA version again, but I think it comes down to me looking for a nostalgia trip, and many things here didn't look or sound exactly like I remembered, but it doesn't mean the remake did a bad job of updating the game.

After finishing Superstar Saga I thought I would start up the sequel just to see how it looked, and before I knew it I was playing through the whole game.
This is often seen as the Forgotten game in the franchise, sandwiched between the first game in the series and the most popular game in the series. It had been a long time since I played it and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it.
You have to keep track of two groups now - Mario/Luigi and baby Mario/Luigi. They manage to keep the complexity down quite well, and there was a lot less backtracking than I thought. Combat has a little more depth to it with a lot of options to get in and out quick. The story is a lot more invovled, and I found myself laughing more while playing this compared to the first game.
I thought for sure I'd walk away thinking Superstar Saga was better, but I would say they are pretty equal.

Month late to the party here, but I liked our write ups of Famicom Detective Club! Honestly you're the first person I've heard of that played these games
Doesn't sound like they are for me, but these along with Another Code are neat little dives into Nintendo's history, and honestly I'm surprised to see them carry these forward.
Ah, thanks again for reading! And yeah, haha, I think I'm the first person I've heard of that's played them too.
Like you inferred, it's definitely difficult to wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone who isn't already a fan of the genre and tolerable of its faults, but it is pretty neat (and rather unlike Nintendo) that they got ports. A welcome surprise!

Really liked
Battle Network. Its cool battle system and charming setting more than make up for some of my problems with it. I hear the sequels clean up some of the rough edges, so I'll have to get to them soon.

I beat Myst finally. That game is tough! I’d done it before albeit twenty+ years ago and on a different version. Still the same game though in the mode I’d played.

After finishing the Fallout show I was in the mode for a game - I had only played Fallout 4 before so I thought I'd give New Vegas a try. Thinking I'd only fool around for an hour, ended up playing it for 50 hours and loved it! Framerate is improved on the series X so it feels good to play overall, but the game is still buggy. Crashes, glitches, sometimes characters ending up inexplicably dead... despite all of that I enjoyed all the different quests and corners of the world to explore.
