I will say, the overwhelming majority of games I nominated I don't consider to be the "best game ever". I nominated a lot of games because I'm interested to see how they rank among the others. I would rather know that people think Nintendo Land should sit at the bottom of the list than to not have it on the list at all. Others take a different approach and only nominate games they believe are contenders for the "best game ever". To me part of the appeal is having a massive list of games that we slowly cut down to find the real gems.
This round has already been interesting as the top games secure their spots. Some of the other games never had a chance, but it's nice to see the discussion nevertheless.
Nintendo land was a really fun pack in game. Did a good job of showing off the possibilities of the Wii U pad. Luigi's mansion was very fun with friends /family as was the Mario tag one. Definitely not a game I'd pick for BGE though
Speaking of pack in games it's a shame 1,2 switch didn't come packed in with the Switch as it was fun but not worth very much as a standalone game. Was amazed by the game makes you guess how many balls in the box as the rumble felt so realistic was super impressed.
The rumble balls is still something I'd really like to try, but have no interest in getting this game for more than $20. Pack in would have been great, though I guess the Switch didn't really need it, and they've sold 2.5 million copies of the game now.

No console
needs a pack-in title but it certainly helps add value to a new console sale and gives the user something to try and show off to their friends and family which may generate extra sales. Wii Sports could easily have been a standalone title but it was a great game to sell the console with as it got non-gamers giving the Wii a go and enjoying it so much they would go out and get their own Wii

Wii Sports would have helped sell millions of console I think the Wii would have done far worse had it been a standalone game. It was basically a glorified tech demo that ended up being really fun. If you think about it it's a very bare boned game with basically 4 very basic modes. Nobody cared though as it was fun as hell

For some reason I thought two games from each poll would move forward. There are some pretty big (personal) tragedies here, but overall I'd say this is a pretty good group of games to move forward.

I thought this too. I remember reading it on the poll before we voted. There's no way to check after we vote though. Could next round we have it mention on the forum and or the site official right up.
Also why did we get 2 votes if only one advanced I think that confused me too.

Good example for the confusion around only 1 going through and having 2 votes is doom getting 9 votes and hollow knight with 8 with the rest barely getting anything (in poll 11). The voting could have gone completely different if it was 1 vote only. Plenty of people could have voted doom and hollow Knight but thought hollow Knight was better of the two we'll never know.

Here's what the rules stated:
You can vote for 1-2 games per poll, or skip a poll entirely.
Only the top-ranked game from each poll will advance to Round Two.
As for why we got two votes, it's so we could vote for two games.
