Good to play SMB3 again, this time the All-Stars version, which is version I grew up with but then ended up playing more of the NES game with successive consoles. Love the SNES-ified music and extra backgrounds and details. Also, can't beat that title screen!
Felt like comparing the GBA port to the SNES so I have that a go, but this time using all the skips and whistle I could. Kind of fun seeing the additional story in the GBA game, and some changed dialogue. I think this is the best looking version with how bright the GBA's colors were.
And what the heck, may as well play the GBA SMB2. This one has a lot of extra health, as well as the addition of collectable coins and Yoshi eggs. Makes for a bit more of a rounded experience. Not a fan of how they changed some designs though, like the inside of the "pipes". Also the voices get a bit tiring after a while.

March Progress
March was a great, fun month of gaming!
I continued my Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster blitz, finishing off the final two games in the collection (both the longest, gameplay time-wise, by far) and then moved on to complete another classic '90s RPG, before pivoting to a huge time-sink social game with friendos. Very satisfying completion, and just in time for April's major free update.
This is now my 2nd best year for Platinums from 2015-25, and my 4th best year ever. I plan to keep chugging on by going back to FFVI for the last missing trophy, finishing up Suikoden II for a platinum, and then we have Lunar remastered on the horizon—another favourite '90s RPG from my childhood!

GOW was pretty awesome. All the great stuff you'd expect based on the quality of the previous game. I will say, it was a bit longer than I would like, and the Atreus bits and constant forced battles got a bit dull. Still, the performances and spectacle of the game keep you playing.
Kong - you recommend playing FFV? I was going to skip it and move on to FFVI, might still do that but maybe I should loop back around to V after.

Re: 2025 Game Clear Thread
V is excellent and definitely worth playing. It's a nice bridge between IV and VI actually. I don't think it's as good as either of them, but it does introduce a couple of the ideas that get picked up in VI.The Shoemaker wrote: ↑12 Apr 2025 22:27 Kong - you recommend playing FFV? So whether you play it first, or loop back to it after, I think there's merit in both approaches.

Beaten:
01/13 - Late Shift (PS5)
01/21 - Rocket League (PS4)
01/22 - Five Dates (PS5)
01/24 - StreetPass Mii Plaza: Puzzle Swap (3DS)
01/25 - F-Zero AX (Arcade)
01/25 - StreetPass Mii Plaza: Market Crashers (3DS)
02/02 - Street Fighter: The Movie (Saturn)
02/13 - Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale (3DS)
02/13 - Tomba! Special Edition (PS5 [PS1])
02/18 - 3D Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master (3DS [Genesis])
03/02 - The Last of Us Part I (PS5 [PS3])
03/08 - LocoRoco Remastered (PS4 [PSP])
03/10 - Ninja Five-O (PS4 [GBA])
03/11 - Balatro (PS5)
03/16 - Um Jammer Lammy (PS1)
03/17 - No One Can Stop Mr. Domino (PS1)
04/07 - Split Fiction (PS5)
04/08 - C-Smash VRS New Dimension (PSVR2)
04/14 - Trip World DX (PS5 [GB])
Nice little trio of games here. Split Fiction is a really lovely co-op game despite some grating writing. C-Smash is a kickass VR racquetball game that I wish literally anyone played. Trip World is a cute little Game Boy game finally released Stateside for the first time.
Probably won't be much action as I head to Japan on Sunday. Maybe I'll beat a couple little arcade games or handheld titles on my travels, but obviously playing games won't be the focus.

Play some JP-only arcade games! The kind you can't just buy and bring home with you, so playing them while there is a necessary part of the experience.

Most importantly, enjoy your trip.

It was fun going back to LM 2/Dark Moon - I had actually forgotten how much I enjoy the game until I was sucked in for hours at a time. The level structure and constant directions from E. Gadd hurts it, but st the same time it is interesting going through these mansions slightly differently in each level, often seeing some sort of progression/evolution of areas you had previously been to.

Re: 2025 Game Clear Thread
Yeah I'm definitely gonna keep an eye out for some games that'd be tough to play at home! I expect it will not be hard to find some cool stuff.
And thanks!
