Fire Emblem Fates
Re: Fire Emblem Fates
I'm at about the same point in Conquest. Basically at this point all my units are promoted. I'm tempted to not bother using any of the other children. Nina, Ophelia and Percy have been great for me but I don't want to divvy up the exp share too much more. The only ones I still might consider are Benny's son since knights are always awesome, Sophie since Silas ended up being bench juice for me and Velour since I never used Keaton. I've actually never been a big fan of beast units in Fire Emblem though.

I've begun the game but haven't yet finished the prologue. This is a lot to take in, coming from Shadow Dragon, but I'm looking forward to diving deeper.

Have you played more than Shadow Dragon, or was that just your last one?Claytone wrote:I've begun the game but haven't yet finished the prologue. This is a lot to take in, coming from Shadow Dragon, but I'm looking forward to diving deeper.

I've only played (and beaten) Shadow Dragon. I played a very insignificant amount of FE7 ages ago. But yeah, that's the extent of my FE experience. Shadow Dragon to Fates is a huge change in terms of presentation, classes, mechanics, etc. I'm sure I can keep up, it's just staggering, to say the least. The Shoemaker wrote:Have you played more than Shadow Dragon, or was that just your last one?Claytone wrote:I've begun the game but haven't yet finished the prologue. There's a very helpful in-game guide which I recommend checking out from time to time. Fates actually has reworked a lot of gameplay mechanics such as the weapon triangle and the way pairing up works. It's a big leap even from Awakening to Fates.Claytone wrote:I've only played (and beaten) Shadow Dragon. I played a very insignificant amount of FE7 ages ago. I found the guides in both Awakening and Fates to be fantastic. On the touch screen you can tap any stat or item or skill and the game will tell exactly what it is/does. The guide is also nice and easily accessible during gameplay too. Informative and non-intrusive.Jordan wrote: There's a very helpful in-game guide which I recommend checking out from time to time. I agree with you. The way the recent games have handled that is perfect. There are no obnoxious tutorials but the game gives hints about when to brush up on certain gameplay mechanics. The guides are very helpful and cover everything that you would need to possibly know. It's also great how you can click on anything to get more information.
The DS and 3DS are also absolutely perfect for Fire Emblem because of the dual screens.
I'm at Chapter 21 of Conquest right now. I've been progressing at a glacial pace but it seems like the game's plot is starting to get closer to the climax. One thing which I'm not real thrilled about in Conquest is that much of the plot seems to be disconnected filler. Some of the chapters even seem like they're totally unnecessary. All of this is easily forgiven by me, though, because the gameplay is the best that Fire Emblem has ever had to offer.

Oh, I meant to get back to you more legitimately about this. Is this common in Canada? Nintendo isn't exactly lights out in the States in terms of stock and availability, so I was wondering how things were up there. Sorry you weren't able to secure a copy. :\Kong Wen wrote:I'll trade you. I'll be grabbing it from his place Friday and look forward to joining the discussion. Hope you guys are enjoying them.

From what I've heard, the special edition has been very hard to find in both the US and Canada. As in, there haven't been any copies available since a month before launch. Yesterday Amazon.com had a few up for sale but were gone within minutes.Claytone wrote:Oh, I meant to get back to you more legitimately about this. Is this common in Canada? This game just hits all the right notes for me. I love the characters, the gameplay and even the music. In my opinion, this is one of the better map themes in a series well known for amazing music already:

I think I'm going to be picking up Birthright or Revelations as well, maybe even both. This is far and away the best Fire Emblem game. I've been playing them since FE7 but this one handles difficulty, balance and gameplay mechanics perfectly while also having arguably the best support system in the series. I thought the console Fire Emblems were the pinnacle in terms of gameplay, but Fates innovates FE perfectly with the improved pair up system. The maps are also greatly varied and interesting, at least in Conquest. Some of them have puzzle-like gimmicks such as wind which really force you to think hard about how to progress forward. My favorites before now were FE7 and 9. This game is much better than both of those and I can list several specific reasons why.
