Alternative consoles (e.g. Ouya), arcades, board gaming, card games, cross-platform, pen & paper, pinball, retro gaming, tabletop, and any other form of gaming that doesn't fit the other categories can be discussed here.

Vic went contrarian.
Nah, for him to be really contrarian (and I think you all know that I'm an expert in this) would require the PC to be an option in the poll.
At any rate, I simply can't think of a console that's has mostly 3D games and had its heyday when I was practically in college as a retro console. I'm surprised that I'm currently alone on that.

When you were in college, did you consider SNES retro?

Yep.

Is it due to sprites/2d games where as everything else is now 3d?

More or less. I don't think the separation between PSX and the current gen is substantial enough compared to the fundamental shift that full 3D graphics as a standard represented. Maybe the 3D systems will become retro when VR is standard, but not until then.

That's probably one of the main reasons indies have been milking the 2D/pixel style rather than moving on to PS1-era low-poly 3D on rendered backgrounds. Even though it looks old, it's not foreign/alien enough to our eyes yet.

I don't think people will really like that style of games ever they look terrible and creepy while 2d pixel can be done really well.
I've changed my vote from gen 5 to gen 4. This is only based on the games for the consoles, as those games would be considered retro if released as a new game on a console from current and recent gen.

Oh boy would you be surprised! (I agree with you though).

I think the gameplay style of that era will be imitated more than the visual style. Games like crash bandicoot and slient hill, game types that aren't necessarily made by big publishers anymore.
