Alright so round 1 and round 2 votes are added together to decide seeding and newly nominated games get 0 votes for round 1?

Correct.

OK, it's time to hash out the elimination round and how people feel about a couple of the little ambiguities of the format.

The start of the elimination round is going to be seeded in the traditional top vs. bottom order, so #1 vs. #2690, #2 vs. #2689, #3 vs. #2688, etc.

So the first question is how do you like your seeding/match-ups to carry down through each round. Do we re-seed new top-rank vs. new bottom-rank (like they do in e.g. the NHL) for the whole field? The downside of that system is that the top-ranked game stays top-ranked forever, and we end up with something like Super Metroid just ploughing through a whole field of jobbers.

Or do we just follow the path of the brackets from the outset, like:

#1______________
#2690

#4______________
#2687

The downside of this system is, if the higher-seeded games in the top of the left bracket both win their contests (in the example above, #1 and #4), they face off against each other in the 2nd round.

For some reason I figured we would do it where the first round is the bottom 100 games, and say the 10 winners from those polls go on to face the next bottom 90 games and so on.

If we seed the top vs the bottom, what's the benefit in a game being seeded higher in the first place?

The opportunity to obliterate a weaker game, like in any tourney in any sport.

Your idea is definitely an option though. The downsides of your setup are twofold: 1. the idea of the #BGE2020 opening rounds was that it puts every game on equal footing. If a lower-ranked game has to win like 20 polls to take the crown, that's not very fair, and 2. on a similar note for the other end of the spectrum, it means the high-seeded games are only competing against each other—the #100 rank game has to go into elimination mode only against 100 similar-seeded games. Ouch!

Not being a sports guy I looked into it more and I see the value in top seed vs bottom seed. We've done each BGE in a different way so I'm down with going with any format for interests sake.

Is it going to be single knockout 1v1?

Double elim, but yes 1v1. There will be some byes for top-seeded games in the first couple rounds to make things even out for the finals.

Probably going to tackle tallying this round and posting the next tomorrow at work, because I'm pretty swamped today, but we'll see!

OK that wraps up the first "getting rid of the danglers" round of the BGE. We had an uneven number unsuitable for a playoff format, so that round trimmed us down to a nice even 2048 remaining upper bracket games.

So for the people who complained about all the no-name games, you're in for a good week.
