New King Gizzard in 2 weeks!
IMO Tame Impala's stuff has been decreasing in quality steadily since Lonerism. "Let It Happen" was the only really good song on Currents—even though it was clear evidence of how e-Dance they were going, it was at least the most artistically realized, meaty song. Everything else seemed kind of thin. I got the same feeling from the latest single I heard, alas. Maybe they'll surprise me.VictorViper wrote: ↑09 Apr 2019 15:27And a new Tame Impala! (checks that it hasn't already released)
Was Lonerism your first exposure to them/him? It is far and away the best album they've put out, and is the oddity in their catalogue. I don't mind at all the shift to dancier tunes, even if I'm back to liking them as simple good-time music.Kong Wen wrote: ↑09 Apr 2019 15:51IMO Tame Impala's stuff has been decreasing in quality steadily since Lonerism. My first exposure was actually their Flaming Lips collab on Heady Fwends, which led me to looking up Lonerism (since they came out around the same time). I don't mind a shift to dancier tunes in general, as long as those dancy tunes are good.VictorViper wrote: ↑09 Apr 2019 16:25 Was Lonerism your first exposure to them/him? Fair point!VictorViper wrote: ↑09 Apr 2019 17:26 Sure but I guess my main point was that the quality of their output has kind of gone back to normal, so to speak, at least in terms of being a listenable, if unremarkable band. Lonerism was special.
