Hmm okay so seems like a decent reason to upgrade then.

Do they play Original DS games still?

That remains unchanged.

The new 3DS, like its predecessor, will be region-locked.

another in the list of Issues with the N3DS.

1.)Region Locking
Idea that we forced to but multiple consoles to play some games.
2.)Released too soon
the DS Had 7 years till the release of the 3DS, yet the 3DS only have 3 years with the release of this.
3.)Name related confusion
New 3DS sounds too much like 3DS, so people would think it's really a 3DS 4.1 & 4.2 instead of it being a 3DS successor

Even with the 3DS some people thought it's nothing more than a DS5 yet really it's a new system with new CPU's & the addition of a GPU thus meaning that it's now way it's just a 3DS.

With the N3DS having more proccessing power means it's a new system not another 3DS at all.

I disagree with you there. Slightly more processing power does not mean it's a some kind of new system or a successor, it's still a 3DS. It will run the same 3DS platform software as the previous models. Except for some exclusives, like the NFC support, which I assume will be used for Amiibo. I hope the games with Amiibo support will work on the old 3DS...

<Echoes>

If they scrapped the region-lock, I would have considered to get one.

Your argument could apply to the 3DS as well as it's has more processing power yet still can run almost all the DS software yet it's a new system that happens to run DS games.

the PS2 is another example.
updated processing power over the PS1 yet still runs most of the PS1 games yet it's not another PS1 model.

While if you look at the DSi on the other hand al updates are of the shelf only.
Double RAM
updated wifi
face training level cameras built in.
Yet all custom chips remain the same including the one that houses both CPU's still remains exactly the same as in the overall core of the system which makes it obviously nothing more than a DS3 not a DS successor.
