This is a great time to sift through the silt and see what nuggets we can find. We haven’t included remakes, ports, and enhanced versions of main series games. Final Fantasy (1987, NES)

I love the original FF and I've played it from start to finish over a dozen times, but I have to go with XII as one of the best overall entries in the whole series. I just love the way the world, the plot, the characters, and the gameplay systems come together in that one.

This was a really tough one to vote for. I like both games a lot and relatively equally. I went with Final Fantasy, though. I like how much they fit into a game that old and the story resonates with me better than XII’s story, which seems cool and I really wanted to like but it never grew on me. XII is about gameplay for me. Final Fantasy is about gameplay and story.
