#BGE2020 - Round 1 - Pool 139

Welcome to the first round of #BGE2020 pools!

Each game is randomly seeded into pools using the set generator at Random.org. There's no seeding, no ranking, and no preference or prioritization.

The results of the pools will determine how each game stacks up in the elimination rounds, coming later this year.

HOW TO VOTE

Voting is ranked, but it's not super intuitive, so listen up.
  • You have 6 total votes to distribute.
  • You can only select up to 3 options.
  • You can only give each option up to 3 votes.
  • NOTE: The number you pick is not the RANK of your choice (i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd), but the number of VOTES you're giving it.
  • The more votes (bigger numbers) a game gets, the better for that game.
EXAMPLES
  • You could pick three games and order them by giving them 3, 2, and 1 votes.
  • If you like three games equally, you could give them 2, 2, and 2 votes.
  • If you only like two games, you could give them 3 and 3 votes (or 3 and 2, etc.).
This gives you a lot of granularity for how you assign your votes and thereby a lot of influence over which games can do well. Use your power wisely!

If you have questions, ask before voting! :neon:

Are we counting Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat 3 separately? Because UMK3 is basically just the definitive edition of 3, and I think we shouldn't.

Mortal Kombat 3 (arcade) and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (Genesis) are both in the competition, and it's because we're using the first BGE project's rules of letting different versions of a game compete against each other in the free market.

If MK3 is better than these other games in its immediate vicinity, you can vote for it and then cross the Ultimate bridge if we come to it.

Okay well what I really want to vote for is UMK3 (Arcade) 😅

I'll add arcade as a console option for UMK3 when RNG surfaces it in this event. :)

Okay, I guess what I'm saying is while I understand the platform differentiation, I thought we were considering re-releases/remasters/definitive editions to be the same as their base game for the purposes of BGE? Am I wrong on that? In that case, I would consider UMK3/MK3 to fall into that category for sure. For example, the MK Arcade Kollection of the first three doesn't even include MK3 because it's a straight downgrade. It's just MK1, MKII, and UMK3. But if you plan to let SFII: The World Warrior, SFII Turbo, SFII':Turbo Hyper Fighting, etc etc etc all battle it out separately, then this is pretty much the same situation.

I had to give DQIV full votes. One of the best in the Zenithian trilogy. I threw a vote to Final Fight for being an outstanding beat em up.

Why am I the only person voting for Gremlins 2? That was a pretty good game - got two votes from me.

You would have been correct for BGE 2012, 2015, and 2019, but this is #BGE2020 - Hindsight Edition, so we're using the entire pool of nominated games according to OG BGE 2010 rules. Different versions compete against each other as long as they're different enough not to be considered straight ports.

All right, well after all that back-and-forth (continued below lol), I've cast 3 votes for MK3 anyway! It's a favorite from my childhood despite UMK3 being the same game but better in every way. Death Stranding pulls in a couple votes despite being deeply flawed. It's interesting and dumb and frustrating but somehow I had to see it through. Final Fight gets one because who doesn't love a good 16-bit beat 'em up?

Well in that case I'd argue that UMK3 on console is a straight port of UMK3 Arcade to inferior hardware! It is not meaningfully different in any way but graphics and sound.
