#BGE2020 - Round 1 - Pool 225

Welcome to the first round of #BGE2020 pools!

Each game is randomly seeded into pools using the set generator at Random.org. There's no seeding, no ranking, and no preference or prioritization.

The results of the pools will determine how each game stacks up in the elimination rounds, coming later this year.

HOW TO VOTE

Voting is ranked, but it's not super intuitive, so listen up.
  • You have 6 total votes to distribute.
  • You can only select up to 3 options.
  • You can only give each option up to 3 votes.
  • NOTE: The number you pick is not the RANK of your choice (i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd), but the number of VOTES you're giving it.
  • The more votes (bigger numbers) a game gets, the better for that game.
EXAMPLES
  • You could pick three games and order them by giving them 3, 2, and 1 votes.
  • If you like three games equally, you could give them 2, 2, and 2 votes.
  • If you only like two games, you could give them 3 and 3 votes (or 3 and 2, etc.).
This gives you a lot of granularity for how you assign your votes and thereby a lot of influence over which games can do well. Use your power wisely!

If you have questions, ask before voting! :neon:

Paperclips is a good refinement of the idle/clicker genre. I mean, they're all what they are, so what sets them apart is presentation and how well they sneak a good story into the mechanics. This one does well.

As I said in my Game Clear Thread mini review, I think Makaimura for WonderSwan may be the best GnG game ever. In contrast to its predecessors it is merely quite tough instead of brutal. It also has the coolest and most varied bosses of any of the GnG games I've played, and it has a neat vertical stage that takes advantage of the WonderSwan's optional vertical orientation. It's got a fun bestiary (unfortunately all in Japanese, of course) and stat tracking. It's everything a GnG game released in 1999 should have been. Its primary downsides is its mediocre soundtrack, which is largely a result of the hardware. I've yet to play a ton of the PSP entry to see how it evolved at that point, but the WonderSwan entry is an excellent chapter in my book. Shame it's so hard to play in its intended format outside Japan, but well worth emulating for anyone that would like a more forgiving intro to the series.

I unfortunately have not yet played Mr. Gimmick or R-Type III, or those might've earned votes. Guess that's why we do this over and over. :)

Not yet! It's on the list too. Meant to mention it. :)

R-Type III is pretty great. A little too easy for an R-Type game, but gorgeous and fun to play.
